About the job

Cupertino, CA / Optical Engineering / Full-Time

Mojo Vision is pioneering a highly flexible, wafers-in, wafers-out micro-LED platform to unlock AI applications in multiple market segments. Built over the past decade by our world-class engineers, our system-level approach combines advanced 300mm silicon architecture with GaN-on-Silicon emitters, proprietary quantum dots, photodetectors, micro-lens arrays, and packaging to solve conventional trade-offs in size, brightness, bandwidth density, and power. Our scalable, manufacturing-ready approach enables breakthrough products such as next-generation optical interconnects and AI glasses.

At Mojo, our team includes talented professionals with expertise in hardware, software, optics, photonics, electronics, chemistry, and applied physics. We are based in Cupertino, California and are backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Mojo Vision is seeking an experienced Principal Optical Engineer to develop optical components and assemblies and support their integration into advanced optical interconnect and display products. This role combines optical design, modeling, measurement, and data analysis to solve complex technical challenges ranging device to system level. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to develop novel optical components and validate their performance in complex systems. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in both optical modeling and measurements and has a passion for solving challenging problems in a fast-moving environment.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define requirements for new optical components and systems and develop the measurements needed to validate that targets have been met.
  • Use FDTD and ray tracing tools to model, design and optimize optical components and evaluate their performance in within complex optical communication systems.
  • Develop and implement novel optical measurement techniques and test methodologies to characterize critical device parameters to validate design and process specifications.
  • Reconcile optical and system models with experimental results.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and external fab partners to realize volume manufacturing processes for optical and optoelectronic components.
  • Work closely with external customers, suppliers, equipment vendors, and manufacturing partners to move from system requirements definition to component design, manufacturing, and system qualification.

Required Skills:

  • MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in optical/photonics modeling, design and measurements.
  • Working experience with FDTD (e.g. Lumerical, Meep, or Tidy3D) and optical ray tracing tools (e.g. Zemax, LightTools, Code V)
  • Hands on experience designing, building, validating and using optical measurement systems. Ability to interpret results and draw conclusions from data.
  • Strong proficiency in automation tools and programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, innovative, high-energy environment with challenging schedules and technologies.
  • Knowledge of optical interconnects, silicon photonics, high-speed electrical systems, signal integrity, advanced semiconductor packaging, mechanical integration, reliability engineering, semiconductor product development, AI infrastructure, datacenter networking.
