Technical Project Manager (Part-Time, Contract)

This is a part-time contract role at $55–65/hr, approximately 20 hours per week on an ongoing basis. Rate will depend on experience.

The Role

Planetary is looking for an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead digital projects from kickoff through deployment on a part-time, ongoing basis. You'll sit at the center of everything: translating client goals into clear plans, keeping design and development teams moving, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll own the full project lifecycle across a portfolio of client work, and you'll be the person clients and internal teams rely on to keep things honest, organized, and on track.

Planetary builds industrial-strength systems for brands that can't afford to fail. Our work spans consumer-facing websites, B2B web applications, and everything in between.

Projects typically run 3-6 months with teams of 4-6 people including strategists, designers, and engineers. We move deliberately, communicate directly, and take craft seriously.

What You'll Do

• Own project planning end to end: scope, budget, timeline, resource allocation, and risk management.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client stakeholders across marketing, product, and technical teams.
• Run sprint planning, task assignments, and point estimations to keep the team focused and delivery on track.
• Facilitate internal and external reviews: set agendas, manage expectations, capture decisions, and distribute clear next steps.
• Surface risks and gaps early and come to leadership with proposed solutions, not just problems.
• Keep project documentation, assets, and communications organized and current across all active projects.
• Communicate project status, priorities, and milestones regularly to both internal teams and clients.

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years managing website design and development projects from inception to deployment at an agency or studio.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to senior client stakeholders.
• Experience with sprint-based workflows and the organizational discipline to manage multiple threads at once.
• Comfort with ambiguity. Requirements shift, clients change their minds, and you know how to hold the project together when they do.
• Familiarity with tools like Linear, Figma, and Slack.
• A track record of delivering projects on time and on budget, and the judgment to know when to escalate before something becomes a problem.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 60 days, you've taken ownership of 1-2 active projects without needing significant hand-holding. Clients trust you as their primary contact. Internal teams know what's expected of them each sprint and why. You're using Planetary leadership as a strategic resource when you need it, not as a safety net for day-to-day decisions.

Over time, success looks like clients asking for you specifically, projects that rarely surprise anyone, and a team that consistently delivers work they're proud of.
