About the job
Community Manager & Engagement Specialist (Remote, Contract)
Contract, full time (approx 45 hrs/week)
Remote only, worldwide. Requires 5 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern Time.
$1,200 to $1,500 USD per month. No equity.
HeartStamp is an AI-native greeting card and gifting platform. We are building the fastest, warmest way to send something that actually feels personal: cards and gifts people keep, not the ones they toss. Small team, fast pace, nobody here waits to be told what to do twice.
THE ROLE
You are the voice of HeartStamp everywhere our customers gather: comment sections, DMs, groups, forums, and reviews. When someone praises us, you make them feel seen. When someone is frustrated, you turn it around before it becomes a screenshot. When someone asks a question in a Facebook group we do not own, you are already there being useful.
Just as much of this job is offense. You will own our commenting strategy, showing up early in the comments of creators and communities our customers already follow, and our follow strategy, deciding who we follow, engage, and build relationships with. Done right, our comments are content.
This is not a content-publishing role. Our Social Media Manager owns the calendar and the creative. You own everything that comes back, plus the communities we build ourselves.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Daily engagement, roughly 40%
- Monitor and respond across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, Reddit, X, and YouTube
- Handle first-line customer questions and route order, billing, and technical issues with clean context
- Catch problems early. A late delivery complaint at 40 likes is a conversation. At 4,000 it is a crisis
Commenting and follow strategy, roughly 30%
- Find the posts worth being early on and comment in our voice while they are still climbing
- Build and maintain our follow lists, engage them consistently, turn follows into relationships
- Use our card art and animated GIFs as comment assets where it fits naturally, never as a pitch
- Track what it returns: profile visits, followers, mentions, DMs. Report weekly and adjust
Community building, roughly 20%
- Help stand up and grow our owned community spaces
- Seed conversation, run recurring rituals, welcome new members, keep the culture warm and non-spammy
- Show up helpfully in communities we do not own without being the brand everyone mutes
Advocacy and signal, roughly 10%
- Surface UGC worth amplifying and superfans worth nurturing
- Report weekly on sentiment, recurring complaints, and feature requests
- Maintain our response playbook, canned replies, and escalation matrix
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 2+ years in community management, social engagement, or social customer care for a consumer brand
- Near-native written English. You will be writing publicly as HeartStamp, unsupervised, many times a day. Warmth, humor, and correct idiom all matter. A technically correct reply that sounds slightly off will cost us
- Fluency in American pop culture and internet humor: celebrity and entertainment news, fashion, music, reality TV, memes, and trends. Most of our customers are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s
- Comedy instincts. You can write a reply that earns likes, not one that just avoids trouble. Our voice runs about 60/40 clever to sincere
- Real platform knowledge. You know what a Reddit mod will remove, why a TikTok comment gets ratio'd, and how Facebook Group reach actually works
- Sound judgment under pressure. You can tell the difference between a joke, a complaint, and a fire
- Experience with at least one social or care tool: Sprout, Hootsuite, Later, Agorapulse, Zendesk, Gorgias, or similar
NICE TO HAVE
- Gifting, ecommerce, DTC, stationery, or a seasonal and holiday-driven business
- You have grown an account through commenting and engagement rather than posting, and you can show it
- You have moderated a community through something genuinely bad and came out fine
- Comfort with AI tools as an assistant, and clear instincts about when not to let them write for you
- Basic Canva or CapCut for lightweight reactive content
WHO THIS IS NOT FOR
- Someone who needs a script for every situation
- Someone who wants to be a content creator or strategist first and a responder second
- Someone who copy-pastes ChatGPT into comment boxes
COVERAGE
Approx 45 hours per week. Minimum 5 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern Time, 11am to 4pm EST. Weekend monitoring on a rotating basis, 1 hour per day. We sell emotion and deadlines, and Saturdays matter.
HOW WE WORK
Small team, direct feedback, very little process for its own sake. You will have a playbook and clear escalation paths, but most of your day is your own judgment. We would rather you make a reasonable call and tell us than wait four hours for permission. HeartStamp is warm, a little playful, never corporate, and never sarcastic at a customer's expense, including customers being unfair.
COMPENSATION
$1,200 to $1,500 USD per month depending on experience, paid monthly. We hire contractors all over the world, so this range is benchmarked to your local market. Where you live shapes where you land in the range, not whether we want you. Independent contractor engagement. At 90 days we review compensation and consider a bonus structure.
TIMELINE
Applications close Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 11:59pm EST. Start date is Monday, August 17, 2026. We move fast on purpose, so please apply only if that start date works for you.
TO APPLY
Send cover letter & resume. Your social media handles would also be great. Any samples of your work would be awesome. Be prepared to provide minimum of 2 senior level references that you reported to . Please do not send a generic cover letter. If we select you for pre-interview we'll send you a Typeform questionnaire that takes about 15-20 min to complete. The questionnaire tells us far more, and we read every response.
