About the job

About the Firm
The Cardoza Law Corporation is a California consumer protection law firm representing individuals in matters involving identity theft, inaccurate credit reporting, unauthorized banking activity, and related consumer claims.

We are a fully remote team that values excellent legal writing, sound judgment, direct communication, accountability, and meaningful advocacy. Our attorneys receive substantial ownership over their cases while working collaboratively with other attorneys and support staff.

About the Position
We are seeking a litigation attorney who can independently manage an active caseload while recognizing when collaboration or escalation is appropriate. The attorney will handle matters through multiple stages of litigation, communicate directly with clients and opposing counsel, and take responsibility for deadlines, strategy, written work, and case progression.

This position is suited to an attorney who is organized, composed under pressure, comfortable making decisions, and committed to producing precise and persuasive work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned federal and California state litigation matters from filing through settlement, dispositive motion, arbitration, or trial preparation.
  • Investigate claims and develop case strategy based on the facts, applicable law, and client objectives.
  • Draft complaints, answers, discovery requests and responses, motions, briefs, settlement communications, and other litigation documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze procedural, evidentiary, and substantive issues.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Prepare for and participate in mediations, arbitrations, court conferences, hearings, and oral arguments.
  • Manage written discovery, document production, subpoenas, expert issues, and discovery disputes.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, witnesses, and firm personnel.
  • Maintain complete and accurate case records, deadlines, communications, documents, and time entries in the firm’s case-management systems.
  • Proactively identify procedural risks, approaching deadlines, evidentiary issues, and obstacles to case resolution.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff while remaining accountable for assigned matters.

What We Are Looking For

  • Excellent Written Advocacy: You write clearly, precisely, and persuasively. You understand that written work reflects both your professional judgment and the credibility of the client’s position. You carefully edit, proofread, and substantiate your work before submitting it.
  • Independent Judgment: You can evaluate incomplete information, identify the material issues, and select a reasonable course of action without waiting for step-by-step direction. You also recognize when an issue warrants consultation with another attorney.
  • Composure in Adversarial Matters: You remain professional and strategic when dealing with difficult opposing counsel, unfavorable rulings, demanding deadlines, or unexpected developments. You can advocate firmly without allowing conflict to impair your judgment or professional relationships.
  • Ownership and Follow-Through: You take responsibility for moving cases forward. You close communication loops, calendar and satisfy deadlines, anticipate procedural requirements, and ensure that assigned work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: You actively develop your substantive and procedural knowledge. You are open to feedback, willing to reconsider established practices, and interested in improving how legal work is performed.
  • Collaborative Independence: You are capable of working independently but value the strategic and practical advantages of working with a team. You communicate early about risks, share useful information, and contribute to firmwide improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • 18+ months of active civil litigation experience in California state or federal court.
  • Substantial experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and litigation correspondence.
  • Experience taking or defending depositions.
  • Working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, California Code of Civil Procedure, and applicable rules of evidence.
  • Experience with electronic discovery and document production.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, organizational, and deadline-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple active matters in a fully remote environment.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competency with cutting-edge legal research platforms, electronic filing systems, case-management software, document-management tools, videoconferencing, and organizational SaaS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Electronic Fund Transfer Act, California consumer protection statutes, identity-theft claims, or financial-services litigation.
  • Experience handling mediations, arbitrations, discovery disputes, and contested court hearings.
  • Experience managing cases from initial evaluation through resolution.
  • Experience working with paralegals or other litigation support personnel.

Work Environment
This is a fully remote position. The attorney must maintain a professional, private, and reliable workspace suitable for confidential client communications and court appearances. Regular availability during the firm’s core Pacific Time working hours is required. Occasional travel or in-person appearances may be required based on case needs.

The Cardoza Law Corporation provides attorneys with meaningful responsibility, practical support, and the opportunity to represent individuals facing serious consumer and financial harm. We expect high-quality work, candid communication, professional judgment, and consistent ownership of assigned matters.

The Cardoza Law Corporation is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit, and the needs of the firm. Reasonable accommodations are available during the application process and employment.
