About Quarro
Quarro is ground-truth legal research. We read the primary record — constitution, statutes, rules, precedent, hearing transcripts, judgments — and return argument-ready memos where every sentence is cited to a source an attorney can open and verify before filing. No invented cases. No guesswork.
The problem we exist to solve is the one that ends careers. In 2023 a lawyer was sanctioned for filing a brief containing six fabricated decisions, invented by a general-purpose chatbot. Quarro is architected so that failure mode is structurally impossible: the system can only cite authority that is actually in the retrieved record, and it surfaces the source for every line before anything reaches a filing.
We're pre-seed, small, and building for licensed attorneys and law firms — federal and all 50 states, with per-firm data isolation and confidentiality designed to satisfy the duty under the rules of professional conduct.
I'm looking for a co-founder who is an attorney, not an advisor who is an attorney.
What you'll own
You are the legal mind of the company. You own three things end to end:
Product ground truth. You define what "correct" means. Which authorities govern a given issue and posture, how treatment is flagged (followed, distinguished, overruled), what a hearing-ready memo must contain, and where the system must refuse to answer rather than guess. You build and run the evaluation set that we grade retrieval and synthesis against — real issues, real jurisdictions, graded by someone who has actually filed. You are the last line before a citation ships.
Professional-responsibility and regulatory posture. Unauthorized practice of law. Competence and supervision obligations for attorneys using AI-assisted tools. Confidentiality, privilege, and work-product preservation in our architecture. Disclaimers, terms of service, and engagement boundaries. State bar guidance is moving fast and unevenly across jurisdictions — you track it, and you make sure our product and our marketing stay inside it. You'll also pressure-test the regulatory surface of Quarro Node, our contributor network (payouts, bandwidth sharing, app-store and consumer-protection exposure).
Trust and distribution with the profession. Attorneys do not buy from strangers. You are the credible face to solos, litigation boutiques, and firm-side decision-makers — design partners, bar associations, CLE, legal-tech committees, and the pilot-to-paid motion. Early on this looks a lot like founder-led sales, because it is.
You'll also cover the ordinary founder legal load — entity, cap table, SAFEs, IP assignment, contractor agreements, DPAs and enterprise paperwork — with outside counsel where it makes sense. That's maybe 15% of the job. The other 85% is product and market.
Who you are
Required:
Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
2+ years of substantive practice — litigation, appellate, or another research-heavy practice. You have written the brief, pulled the authority, and felt the specific dread of a cite you weren't sure about at 1 a.m.
Opinionated about what makes legal research good. You can look at a memo and say precisely why it would or wouldn't survive a bench
Comfortable working with engineers on product, not just reviewing their output
Willing to be a founder: equity-only to start, no title theater, real ownership and real risk
Strongly preferred:
Experience with e-discovery, legal tech, knowledge management, or a firm's innovation function
Familiarity with state bar guidance on generative AI (ABA Formal Opinion 512 and the state analogues)
An existing network of practicing attorneys who would take your call about a pilot
Prior startup or founding experience
You do not need to be technical. You do need to be curious enough about how retrieval works that you can tell the difference between a system that is grounded and one that is guessing.
Optional closing paragraph — the honest part
We are pre-funding. There is no salary today. What there is: meaningful founder equity, a co-founder title that reflects actual ownership of a domain, a product with a clear and unglamorous reason to exist, and a market that is actively looking for someone to solve this without lying to them. If that trade doesn't work for your life right now, that's a reasonable read — reach out anyway if you'd want to talk once we're funded.
