What we do
At Truckbase, we empower small and mid-sized specialized trucking companies with easy-to-use online tools to help them thrive. Legacy trucking software was built and priced for large fleets and not customized to specialized carriers. Truckbase was founded in 2021 with the vision that purpose-built solutions can meaningfully improve the livelihoods of drivers, dispatchers, operations managers, and owners at small trucking companies.
Role
Truckbase is looking for a Business Development Representative who is passionate about being the first voice our future customers hear. You'll be at the top of our sales engine – identifying great-fit specialized carriers, opening conversations through cold outreach, and setting up qualified meetings with Account Executives. Your work directly determines what our pipeline looks like next quarter and next year.
You'll spend most of your day doing high-volume outbound prospecting — calls, emails, and LinkedIn — into specialized fleets (e.g., oversized, flatbed, and adjacent segments), holding qualifying conversations, and handing off well-scoped opportunities to AEs. You'll partner closely with Sales, Marketing, and the leadership team on messaging, targeting, and playbooks. This is a high-ownership role with a clear path into full-cycle closing (AE) as you develop.
This role and level will be commensurate with years of relevant prior experience.
Strong candidates have 1–3 years of SDR/BDR experience at a B2B SaaS company, ideally at a fast-growing startup. Grit, coachability, and curiosity matter more than industry background. Trucking or logistics experience is a plus but not required.
Responsibilities
Outbound Prospecting
- Own a book of target specialized fleets.
- Execute daily outbound activity across phone, email, and LinkedIn to identify decision-makers and generate interest.
- Personalize outreach based on account research and segment context; iterate on messaging based on what actually converts.
- Maintain a competitive attitude in outbound activities and opportunities created.
Discovery & Qualification
- Run initial discovery conversations to understand each prospect's operational profile, active pain, timeline, and decision process.
- Qualify against target customer profiles and hand off opportunities to Account Executives with detailed context — pain, players, timeline, and next step.
- Log objections cleanly so the team can learn from what's converting and what isn't.
Pipeline & CRM
- Maintain CRM hygiene (Salesforce or equivalent) — accurate account status, activity logging, next-step ownership, and clean handoffs.
- Partner with the sales team on lead-quality feedback and inbound follow-up.
- Provide field intelligence on prospect objections, competitive positioning, and ICP refinement.
Continuous Improvement
- Test new outbound sequences, subject lines, call openers, and channels; iterate based on response and conversion data.
- Participate in weekly pipeline reviews and coaching sessions with the Head of Sales.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years in a B2B SaaS SDR/BDR role, or comparable outbound sales experience with a demonstrated hunter profile.
- Track record of meeting or exceeding activity and accepted-opportunity quotas. Comfortable with high-volume outbound prospecting — cold calls, personalized email at scale, LinkedIn.
- Strong written and verbal communication; can hold a substantive business conversation with an owner or operations lead within the first 60 seconds of a call.
- Working familiarity with CRM (Salesforce or HubSpot) and sales engagement tools (Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo, or similar).
- Self-motivated; thrives in a fast-paced, remote-first environment with limited direct supervision.
Interests
- Coachable — actively seeks feedback and applies it quickly.
- Resilient — handles rejection well and stays optimistic through a hard cold-call day.
- Curious about vertical SaaS, small-business software, and the trucking industry.
- Ambitious — sees BDR as the foundation for a broader sales career, with a clear track to AE.
- Analytical — takes pride in understanding what drives conversion, not just what fills the activity dashboard.
- Collaborative across Sales, Marketing, and Product; enjoys building the playbook, not just running it.
