Data & Signal Intelligence Engineer (Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Data & Signal Intelligence Engineer to define and ship the logic that turns raw catalog and usage signal into clear, actionable output for our music catalog platform. This is primarily a data and product-logic problem: taking incoming signal from our data partners, deciding how to weight and combine it, and producing confidence scoring and recommended actions that hold up under scrutiny. Search/ranking refinement from live user queries is part of the roadmap but secondary to this core scope.

Our embedding and data infrastructure exists; your job is the layer that turns that data into decisions, working directly with our data partner's team on the incoming feeds.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement how incoming social/usage data signals get weighted and combined to drive confidence scoring and recommended next actions
• Build the logic that turns combined signals into clear, explainable output, and iterate on weighting as real outcomes reveal what works
• Work directly with our data partner's team to shape and refine the incoming data feeds this logic depends on
• Establish an evaluation approach that lets the team trust scoring and weighting changes before they ship
• As the system starts taking real user queries, contribute to refining search relevance and ranking based on usage patterns
• Build feedback loops that let the system improve from real outcomes, not just fixed heuristics Work closely with product to translate business priorities into scoring and action-recommendation logic

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years building data pipelines, scoring/decision logic, or applied ML systems in production
• Strong track record turning messy, multi-source data into structured, defensible output
• Comfortable defining evaluation criteria and weighting logic from scratch, without a clean ground truth to start from
• Proficiency in Python and a standard data/ML stack
• Experience collaborating directly with external data providers or partner teams on data feeds and schemas

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with search, ranking, or recommendation systems
• Experience working with vector search or embedding-based retrieval
• Background in music, audio, or media data (nice to have, not required)
• Familiarity with trend detection or time-sensitive scoring problems (where signal decays quickly)
