Senior Software Engineer

About Us

We are Navidence, a growing startup with a mission to build tools that help Pharmaceutical ("Pharma") companies ask better questions of data for clinical research. As part of our team you will help design and build a product that combines modern web technologies, clinical knowledge bases, semantic search and LLM tools to solve difficult real-world problems in life sciences research. Our engineering team is currently comprised of a CTO and a Lead Software Engineer, both of whom are actively involved in the development process.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and scaling our platform. You will work closely with the other members of the engineering team, our Knowledge Engineering team, and our customers to design, develop, and deploy high-quality software solutions. As our third engineer, in addition to having influence on our architecture and product direction, you will help us create an engineering culture built around engineering rigor, exploring new ideas, and strong team dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team to plan and execute projects.
• Contribute to our comprehensive testing strategy.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Own features from initial design through deployment and production support.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the stack.
• Develop and maintain robust backend systems using TypeScript.
• Build polished React + React Router user experiences.
• Maintain and evolve our PostgreSQL database schema and related queries.

Requirements

• Understanding and eagerness to work in a startup environment.
• Demonstrated experience building and owning production software systems.
• Ability to adapt quickly to the evolving priorities of a dynamic industry.
• Skilled at determining and pursuing high priority efforts from a large backlog.
• Wearing multiple hats — developer + some DevOps, IT, and customer relations.
• Proven experience with both frontend and backend development.
• Strong understanding of SQL & database schema design.
• Track record of owning full-stack solutions — from CSS to SQL.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Previous contributions to open source projects.
• Familiarity with our tech stack (TypeScript, PostgreSQL, GCP).
• Experience with healthcare, life sciences, or research.
• Experience with semantic search, LLM agent deployment, data warehouses.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and strategies.
