Subvent builds software that helps community-based organizations and small businesses run smoother operations and access resources. This role focuses on creating a secure customer onboarding and account experience, plus AI features that help customers get answers and produce stronger narratives.

You will work on a Next.js application running on Firebase Studio and Google Cloud, using Gemini for AI features.

- Remote-friendly.
- Primary working location/time zone: Remote. Eastern time preferred.

*Expected responsibilities
*
- Build production-ready UI features in a Next.js (React) codebase.
- Implement multi-step onboarding forms with strong UX:
- Client-side and server-side validation.
- Autosave and draft states.
- Progress indicators and recovery from errors.
- Accessibility (keyboard support, focus management, helpful error messages).
- Design and implement Firestore data models and write secure Firebase Security Rules.
- Build and maintain serverless backend logic using Firebase Functions or Google Cloud Functions.
- Implement an AI support chatbot:
- Chat UI and backend endpoints.
- Grounded responses using a curated knowledge base (FAQ, policies, product docs).
- Safety controls, logging, and clear escalation behavior when the model is unsure.
- Build an AI-assisted writing workflow:
- Structure and store inputs, outputs, and feedback.
- Support iteration loops that improve draft quality over time.
- Write clear, testable code and document technical decisions.
- Collaborate asynchronously through short specs, GitHub PRs, and code reviews.

- A chat experience backed by Gemini and a curated knowledge base.
- Basic safety, logging, and escalation paths.
- AI-assisted content editing workflow
- AI-draft generations.
- Structured storage and feedback mechanisms.

- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment.
- Ability to write and maintain production-quality code in a collaborative codebase.
- Comfort working with form-heavy UX, including validation, accessibility basics, and multi-step state management.
- Comfort with Git and a pull-request based workflow.
- Reliable communication and progress updates (written status updates, short specs, and PR notes).
*Candidate qualifications

Minimum qualifications (must have)
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience building React applications and at least one project using Next.js.
- Understanding of REST APIs and client-server architecture.

- Preferred degree path: TBD (add one that matches your program needs, for example: pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information, or a related field).
- Equivalent experience: We welcome candidates with equivalent practical experience and strong project work.

- Next.js -App Router, server and client components, API routes, and auth-aware routing. -Performance basics (loading states, caching, minimizing unnecessary re-renders).
- Firebase -Firestore data modeling (document structure, indexes, query constraints). -Authentication (sign-in flows, session handling). -Security Rules that enforce least-privilege access. -Emulator usage for local development. -Serverless backends
- Firebase Functions or Cloud Functions (HTTP triggers, background triggers).
- Logging and error handling patterns.
- AI integration
- Calling LLM APIs reliably (timeouts, retries, rate limits).
- Structured outputs and prompt iteration.
- RAG fundamentals (retrieval, grounding, citations or source attribution).
- Basic safety and evaluation thinking (hallucinations, deferrals, feedback loops).
- Testing
- Unit and integration testing for UI and functions.
- Familiarity with CI basics.
- Preferred qualifications (nice to have)
- Familiarity with AI-enabled software engineering tools (Gemini, Claude, Google AI, etc.).
- Prior experience building chat interfaces or knowledge-base driven help experiences.
