Who We Are

Hive Collective is a private, invite-only community of AI-native engineers and engineering leaders. Think of us as a peer-vetted engineering society for people who build real agentic systems, whose mission is to connect them with the opportunities that will put their talents to work.

Our members embed with client engineering teams at startups and enterprise companies alike. The work is usually some mix of designing agentic systems, shipping production LLM pipelines, and helping the organization actually operate that stuff once it's live. Membership isn't open enrollment; domain experts on our side vet every engineer before they join. We filter out folks who just know how to vibe code or who just wrap commercial LLM APIs with pretty dashboards. We're looking for true engineering depth and incessant hunger for continuously learning this wonderful new craft called AI engineering.

What We're Looking For

You're a senior software engineer who's spent years building and running production systems. Side projects and polished demos are fine as extras, but we care about whether you've shipped and owned real software under real constraints.

You live and breathe modern agentic patterns. Multi-agent pipelines, tool use, memory, routing, orchestration, retrieval, evaluation: this is the work you want to be doing, and you've already done enough of it to have opinions. You can design these systems from first principles, talk through the tradeoffs, and tell the difference between a framework tutorial and a production architecture.

You've put LLM-powered systems into production and kept them there. You know what breaks: evals, cost, latency, drift, observability, auth, the boring operational stuff that demos skip.

You're strong in at least one modern backend language (Python, TypeScript/Node, Go, Java, or similar). You write software other engineers are glad to inherit.

Excellent English, written and verbal. Able to work North American business hours. Low ego, high agency, strong collaborator, patient mentor. Brilliant-but-difficult doesn't fly here.

Strongly Preferred

Knowledge of a modern frontend stack (React or similar) and comfort working across the full stack when the job calls for it.

Experience sitting inside a product team, whether through consulting, professional services, or a small company, and turning fuzzy requirements into working software.

Past work building or managing cloud and delivery infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker & Kubernetes; Terraform; CI/CD; monitoring & alerting).

Something public that shows your depth helps: open source, talks, writing, or systems peers would recognize.
