About the job
Social Media Manager
Project 2029 is seeking volunteer Social Media Managers to help grow our online presence, engage supporters, and amplify our mission through strategic digital communication. This role is ideal for someone who understands social platforms, enjoys creating clear and compelling content, and wants to support a mission driven civic organization working on policy development, democracy, and community engagement.
The Social Media Manager will help ensure that Project 2029’s digital channels are active, consistent, values aligned, and structured to support volunteer recruitment, public education, policy content, events, and organizational growth.
**Responsibilities
- Develop, schedule, and manage engaging content across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
- Partner with communications, policy, recruitment, and operations teams to translate organizational priorities into clear, timely, mission aligned social media content.
- Create and maintain a simple content calendar that supports campaigns, events, volunteer recruitment, public education, newsletters, and announcements.
- Monitor audience engagement and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a professional, timely, values aligned manner.
- Draft captions, short form posts, graphics prompts, campaign language, and platform specific content aligned with Project 2029’s tone and brand.
- Use Canva, scheduling tools, analytics tools, or other approved platforms to support consistent publishing and performance tracking.
- Review social media content for formatting consistency, accuracy, accessibility, links, tone, and alignment with approved messaging.
- Coordinate with volunteer leaders to prioritize social media requests, manage posting timelines, and create a simple process for content requests.
- Recommend improvements to social media strategy, audience growth, engagement practices, platform use, content organization, and digital storytelling.
Create simple documentation so future volunteers can understand posting processes, brand standards, platform access, and content workflows.
**QualificationsExperience managing social media accounts, digital communications, online campaigns, or community engagement content.
Comfort working with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Canva, and scheduling or analytics tools.
Strong eye for clear messaging, visual consistency, audience engagement, and accessible digital communication.
Ability to translate organizational needs into practical social media content and platform specific posts.
Comfort collaborating with volunteers, leadership, and nontechnical stakeholders while explaining recommendations in plain language.
Strong attention to detail, follow through, judgment, and documentation habits.
Ability to work independently in a remote, volunteer led environment.
Interest in civic engagement, democracy, public policy, social impact, progressive politics, or community based work.
Helpful but not required: coursework or experience in communications, marketing, journalism, political science, public policy, digital media, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, Sprout Social, Google Analytics, email marketing tools, graphics, reels, short form video, advocacy, civic, nonprofit, grassroots, or volunteer led organizations.
**What Success Looks Like
- Project 2029’s social media channels are more active, consistent, polished, and mission aligned.
- Volunteer, policy, event, and public education content is clear, timely, and engaging.
- Social media requests are organized, prioritized, and completed in a timely way.
- The organization has a stronger digital presence that supports recruitment, engagement, credibility, and public education.
- Basic content calendars, posting processes, and platform workflows are documented so the work does not depend on one person.
- Social channels support growth while remaining accurate, accessible, values aligned, and professional. **Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a practical digital storyteller who enjoys making social media clearer, more engaging, and more useful. You do not need to be a professional political strategist, but you should be comfortable managing social channels, making thoughtful content recommendations, and helping a growing volunteer organization communicate professionally online.
This is a strong fit for someone who is creative, organized, collaborative, responsive, and motivated by the opportunity to support civic infrastructure and democratic engagement.
