Senior Product Designer (Part-Time Contractor)
Overview
Kantata is building modern software for the professional services industry. We are seeking a contract Senior Product Designer for a part-time engagement to execute high-impact, project-level design tasks within specific product workstreams.
This role is highly tactical and focused on execution. You will step in to deliver polished, end-to-end design solutions for targeted feature sets, with an immediate focus on our Financial Management and emerging Agentic Platform areas.
- Role Type: Part-time Contract (approx. 15–20 hours/week)
- Duration: 3 to 6 months (with potential for extension)

The Role
- Execute Targeted Workstreams: Deliver high-fidelity, spec-ready designs for defined features from user flow to final polish.
- Partner for Execution: Work closely with PMs and Engineering to translate pre-defined project requirements into functional, scalable solutions.
- Apply Existing Design Systems: Implement and leverage our established design system patterns to ensure consistency across your assigned product areas.
What You'll Do
Project Execution
- Deliver Complex Workflows: Design highly functional, net-new AI-driven workflows and improve targeted core product flows.
- Build Spec-Ready UI: Create clear, comprehensive interaction models, UI states, edge cases, and handoff-ready specifications.
- Apply Design System Patterns: Use, adapt, and implement our existing Figma design system components efficiently without needing to rebuild or re-architect the system.
Collaboration & Efficiency
- Engage with Product & Engineering: Collaborate closely with PMs and Engineers to rapidly resolve implementation details and edge cases.
- Operate with Autonomy: Take a hands-on, self-directed approach to completing project deliverables with minimal oversight.
- Move with Velocity: Focus on execution and delivery speed while maintaining a high standard of visual and interaction quality.
Core Capabilities & Hard Skills
Interaction Design (Critical)
- Strong command of UI states, complex multi-step workflows, and edge cases.
- Deep expertise in mapping clear user intent to precise system responses.
Information Architecture
- Ability to organize complex, data-dense features into clear, intuitive hierarchies.
- Expertise in structured navigation and mapping conceptual workflow models.
System Application (Practical Systems Thinking)
- Ability to quickly master and work within an established, highly complex product ecosystem.
- Skill in identifying and utilizing existing UI patterns to solve new design challenges.
Execution-Focused Communication
- Ability to clearly present design solutions and justify design decisions based on interaction best practices.
Experience & Tools
- BS in Design and Media Programs or Behavioral and Information Sciences, MS desired
- Strong portfolio demonstrating execution of complex B2B SaaS, data-dense, or platform products.
- Advanced proficiency in Figma, with a strong background in utilizing established component libraries.
- Familiarity with modern frontend concepts (React, components) to ensure seamless engineering handoffs.
- Direct experience designing user interfaces for AI workflows (understanding deterministic vs. probabilistic system behavior).
- Experience working in high-velocity, contract, or agency environments where rapid onboarding and execution are required.
