About the job
What You'll Do
Own features end-to-end — from backend/schema design in Rust through to a polished, production-ready UI.
That said, Rust is not a hard gate. We will make exceptions for candidates with strong backend depth in another language (Node, Python, Go, etc.) and 6+ years of experience, provided they clearly understand systems-level concepts — syntax is learnable, especially with AI tooling, but architectural judgment isn't.
Build and architect the companion app (web + iOS/Android) that serves as the primary interface for our intelligent home devices
Collaborate closely with the AI/voice engineering team to surface real-time ASR and TTS capabilities in seamless, responsive experiences
Define engineering standards, performance benchmarks, and system/component architecture from the ground up (0 → 1)
Work directly with the founder and US team on product direction, design decisions, and technical strategy
Drive performance optimization end-to-end — backend latency, real-time state handling, and offline capability all matter deeply in a smart home context
What We're Looking For
4+ years of professional engineering experience, including mid-to-senior tenure at a strong product company — candidates who cut their teeth pre-AI-assisted coding and deeply understand how systems are built are preferred
True full-stack range — this is the core bar. You're equally comfortable reasoning about backend/schema design as you are shipping a pixel-considered UI. Candidates who list "React" on a resume but have never done real front-end work, or who can't speak to backend/systems thinking, are not a fit either direction.
Strong backend/systems fundamentals — you understand how distributed systems, APIs, and data models are built, independent of language
Deep expertise in React and TypeScript for web
Mobile experience in any native stack — React Native, Swift (iOS), Kotlin/Android SDK, or equivalent; React Native is our current stack but not a hard requirement
Proven track record shipping consumer-facing products at scale — you've owned real, meaningful chunks of a product people actually use
Experience building real-time or event-driven systems (WebSockets, streaming responses, live state management)
Ability to work autonomously — you don't need to be told what to do, you identify problems and solve them end to end
Comfortable with ambiguity and fast pace; startup 0-to-1 experience strongly preferred
