About Secure Print
Secure Print operates a network of secure, self-service printing stations placed inside DMV and government facilities. Visitors print documents they need for their appointment — insurance cards, proof of residency, forms — directly from their phone, no laptop, no app download, no lost paperwork. We're pre-build, working toward pilot deployment with our first state DMV partner.
The role
You'll lead engineering across the entire system, from hardware integration through the customer-facing app to the internal operations platform. This is a founding technical role: you're not joining an existing team, you're building one, and you'll shape the architecture, the stack, and the hiring plan that follows you.
You'll own three interlocking systems:
Customer-facing product — a phone-optimized web app (no app store dependency) that pairs with physical printing stations via QR code, handles secure document upload, pay-per-page checkout (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay), and print release. Privacy by design: documents encrypted in transit, processed in ephemeral storage, deleted within minutes.
Corporate operations platform — the internal dashboard that runs the business: real-time fleet metrics, automated alerts (paper out, jams, failed payments), remote configuration and pricing, financial reporting and reconciliation.
Customer service layer — in-app support and refund flows, automated refunds for clear failures, and a human queue with full job context for ambiguous cases.
What you'll be responsible for
- Architecting and building the mobile web app, cloud backend, and operations dashboard from the ground up
- Standing up a multi-site fleet management system designed to scale from a handful of pilot stations to tens of locations across states
- Leading SOC 2 Type 2 certification to completion before our first pilot goes live — this is a hard prerequisite for government procurement, not a future milestone
- Building to WCAG 2.1 AA and ADA accessibility standards as a first-class requirement, not an afterthought — every flow must be completable independently by a visitor with a disability
- Implementing PCI-DSS compliant payments (tokenized, no raw card data stored) and audit logging with a tamper-evident trail
- Designing the self-provisioning flow for new station installs — new-facility go-live in days, not weeks Setting engineering hiring plans and building out the team as we scale post-pilot
What we're looking for
- Years of production engineering experience, ideally having taken a product from zero to live with real users
- Strong full-stack ability — comfortable across mobile web frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure
- Direct experience with SOC 2 (Type 1 or Type 2) — you've been through the process, ideally owned it
- Comfort with a hardware-adjacent product — integrating physical devices, managing a device fleet, or working with IoT/edge systems is a strong plus
- Interest in or experience with regulated, compliance-heavy, or government-facing products (fintech, healthtech, govtech) is a strong plus
- Founder mentality: you want to build the thing, not just work on it — this is a small, high-ownership environment with no existing playbook
Compensation
Equity-heavy, founding-team structure — reflecting real ownership in the company, not just a job. Cash and equity split negotiable based on your situation. Happy to share specifics in conversation.
