🔧 About the Role

We’re hiring a Backend Developer to take strong execution ownership of the backend systems powering Zobaze POS, one of the most widely used mobile-first POS apps for retail and food businesses globally.

You’ll work directly with the founder and core team, turning product direction into reliable, scalable backend systems. This is not a “pick up tickets and wait for instructions” role. You’ll own important backend modules, make production-impacting decisions, improve system reliability, and help build the foundation that keeps thousands of businesses running every day.

Zobaze POS is a business-critical product built for shopkeepers, food outlets, wholesalers, and growing retail teams to manage their day-to-day operations.
It covers billing, inventory, staff, reports, and other core workflows that merchants depend on daily. The backend behind Zobaze needs to be fast, secure, scalable, and reliable because for our users, this is not just software — it is how they run their business.

🎯 What You’ll Own

• Backend feature delivery from design → build → deploy → monitor → improve
• APIs, business logic, integrations, data models, and backend workflows
• Cloud Functions, Cloud Run services, Pub/Sub flows, and background tasks
• Firestore, MongoDB, and NoSQL database design, optimization, and maintenance
• Backend reliability, security, performance, and scalability
• Debugging production issues and reducing recurring system failures
• IAM, access control, data protection, and backend security hardening
• Deployment workflows, CI/CD improvements, automation, and developer productivity
• Roadmap items for technical debt, must-fix issues, security improvements, and long-term backend scale
• Close collaboration with Android, product, QA, and design teams to ship complete product experiences

You’ll be expected to think like an owner, not just a contributor. When something breaks, you’ll help find the root cause. When something can be faster, safer, or cleaner, you’ll help improve it.

You’ll help strengthen the backend foundation behind Zobaze POS and prepare it for the next level of scale.
Present and future work may include:

• Scalable backend services using Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript
• Cloud-native systems using Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Run
• Event-driven workflows using Pub/Sub and Google Cloud Tasks
• Reliable APIs for mobile-first, business-critical product experiences
• Stronger logging, monitoring, alerting, and production visibility
• Better data structures and query performance across Firestore, MongoDB, and NoSQL systems
• Backend automation for deployments, testing, infrastructure, and internal workflows
• AI-assisted development using tools like Cursor, Windsurf, Claude CLI, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools

🧠 Your Stack — Must-Have Skills

• 3+ years of backend development experience
• Strong production experience with Node.js
• Strong command of JavaScript
• TypeScript experience or willingness to work with TypeScript
• Experience with Firestore, MongoDB, or other NoSQL databases
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
• Familiarity with AWS
• Experience with Google Cloud Functions or similar serverless systems
• Understanding of Docker for container creation, hosting, and maintenance
• Experience with Google Cloud Run or similar deployment platforms
• Experience with async workflows such as Pub/Sub and Google Cloud Tasks
• Strong understanding of backend security, IAM, access control, and cloud security basics
• Comfortable debugging production systems
• Ability to work independently with high ownership and limited hand-holding
• Git and modern development workflows

• Python experience
• Experience with POS, retail, billing, inventory, or operational business logic
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and release automation
• Exposure to observability, logging, alerting, or performance monitoring tools
• Experience building backend systems for mobile apps
• Firebase Auth, Firebase Messaging, Analytics, or related Firebase experience
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, Windsurf, or similar
• Interest in mentoring, improving engineering processes, and raising the technical bar
