NOTE: This is a 40 hour/week, fully benefited, limited duration position estimated to last between 6- 12 months. There is potential to transition to standard full-time employment. Work may be performed remotely within the contiguous United States. However, individuals who reside within a 30 mile radius of our Houston, TX or Corvallis, OR office will be required to be in office at least 4 days per week.

POSITION SUMMARY: This position will report to the manager for product development and will be part of a dynamic high impact team focused on developing NuScale’s microreactor technology. The team reports to the CTO. NuScale’s microreactor technology is in the early stages of development and the target market for this product includes research reactor and commercial distributed power and heat applications at a thermal power scale smaller than NuScale’s commercial small modular reactor. This role will be responsible for the mechanical design of systems and components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Systems and component conceptual design development
  • Support design trade studies
  • Perform thermal mechanical design analysis for static stress, fatigue, and creep, using analytical and computational methods
  • Product cost modeling
  • Support instrumentation selection and instrumentation design integration
  • Support system and component design development for test facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four year accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience in mechanical design of systems and components, including expertise with structural analysis using ANSYS, is required.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
