Full-Stack / Backend Engineering Intern (Python & React)

About the Role:
We are looking for a self-motivated Full-Stack / Backend Engineering Intern (Python & React) to join our core engineering team. You will work on building next-generation enterprise analytics systems that translate natural language queries into complex business database structures using AI semantic engines and secure data tunnels, and building the interactive frontend dashboards to display this data.

This is a hands-on role where you will deal with real-world AI agent architectures, streaming WebSockets, frontend reporting interfaces, and secure tunneling daemons.

Technical Stack You Will Work With:

• Backend: Python (Advanced concepts, asynchronous programming with asyncio), FastAPI, Uvicorn
• Frontend: React, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), TailwindCSS / Vanilla CSS
• Databases: Relational databases (MS SQL Server / Postgres), MongoDB, Redis (Caching & Rate Limiting)
• AI/RAG: Vector Search (Pinecone / similar), OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, Semantic Ontologies (YAML-based)
• Realtime: WebSockets (FastAPI backend + React frontend client-side communication)

Responsibilities:

• Full-Stack Integration: Build and maintain responsive frontend UI components in React/TypeScript and connect them seamlessly with backend FastAPI endpoints.
• Semantic Layer Development (AI): Help expand our Semantic Engine by developing YAML-based business ontologies and database adapters for various enterprise databases.
• Gateway Agent Engineering: Harden our local secure gateway agent (database tunneling daemon) by adding SRE resilience features like exponential backoff, circuit breakers, and network health checks.
• WebSocket Integration: Optimize WebSocket streaming pipelines to deliver realtime database execution status, streaming tokens, and column headers cleanly to the React frontend.
• System Design & API Design: Apply solid system design principles to design clean, RESTful, and WebSocket-based APIs capable of handling concurrent connections.
• Testing: Build and maintain comprehensive unit and integration test suites using pytest.

What We Are Looking For (Requirements):

• Strong programming foundation in Python (understanding of generators, coroutines, async/await is crucial).
• Solid hands-on experience with React, JavaScript, and TypeScript (hooks, state management, connecting frontend with async APIs).
• B System Design Fundamentals: Understanding of how to design scalable APIs, rate-limiters, database connection pools, caching layers, and handle concurrency.
• Solid understanding of relational database concepts and writing SQL queries (joins, aggregates, casting).
• Passion for AI, LLMs, and agentic workflows (understanding of how prompts, context windows, and embeddings work).
• Familiarity with Git workflows (branches, rebasing, pull requests).

Good to Have (Bonus points):

• Experience with WebSocket communication protocols on both backend and client side.
• Prior experience with MongoDB and NoSQL design.
• Basic understanding of network tunneling or background daemons/systemd services.
