Principle Cloud Architect

About the Role
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Cloud Architect to take full ownership of our Azure environment and Azure DevOps practice. You'll be the technical authority on cloud architecture — designing for scale, reliability, security, and cost — while working closely with our development teams on smooth, safe deployments.

We're an AI-powered medical consultation platform built for Australian healthcare, helping doctors, clinics, and reception teams run real-time AI-assisted consultations, automate clinical documentation, and streamline billing. Our platform runs entirely on Microsoft Azure, with a growing cloud estate of 200+ resources across compute, data, AI, networking, and security.

A central part of this role is ensuring our architecture is and remains ISO 27001 compliant — as a healthcare platform handling Protected Health Information (PHI), security and auditability are foundational, not optional.

What You'll Do

• Own the end-to-end architecture of our Azure estate across all environments (production, UAT, clinic, integrations, shared services)
• Design scalable, resilient, cost-effective solutions across App Service, Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Storage, Azure OpenAI, Document Intelligence, Cognitive Search, and Azure SignalR
• Own and improve Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines (YAML), including build/test, code-quality gates (SonarQube), and release management
• Introduce and own Infrastructure as Code (Bicep or Terraform) — infrastructure is currently managed manually, so this is a key greenfield opportunity
• Drive full ISO 27001 compliance: secrets management, network isolation, identity/access controls, audit logging, and SIEM monitoring
• Own observability, SLAs/SLOs, disaster recovery, and backup strategy
• Monitor and optimise Azure spend
• Participate in an on-call rotation for urgent production incidents
• Collaborate with and mentor backend (.NET), frontend (Next.js/React), mobile, and AI engineering teams

What We're Looking For

• Extensive, hands-on Azure experience (compute, data, AI, networking, security)
• Deep Azure DevOps expertise — YAML pipelines, release management, quality gates
• Strong containerisation skills (Docker, Azure Container Registry, Container Apps)
• Infrastructure as Code experience (Bicep/Terraform)
• Solid cloud networking & security background (VNets, NSGs, Key Vault, managed identities)
• Experience with both relational and NoSQL data at scale (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB)
• Track record delivering secure, compliant cloud architectures (ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, or equivalent)
• Working knowledge of .NET 8/10 and Next.js/React enough to collaborate credibly with developers
• Comfortable working autonomously across time zones in a remote-first team
