About the job
We are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer with 0–4 years of experience to join Aristotle as a founding team member and build the future of AI-powered education. You'll be joining a team of 8 at an applied AI research lab that's building a voice agent tutor: combining LLMs, voice, vision, and memory to deliver personalized tutoring to students. We need someone with high agency, hacker energy, and a clear sense of where they want to go in their career.
What will you be doing?
- Build and scale real-time, multimodal tutoring experiences combining voice, vision, and memory systems*
- Experiment with LLM-centric harnesses and context-engineering to figure out how to get LLMs to teach well*
- Ship full-stack features end-to-end: backend-leaning work with front-end that can increasingly be AI-coded*
- Prototype and evaluate memory systems inspired by cognitive science and cutting-edge agent research*
- Collaborate closely with product and design to wrap complex multi-agent architecture in intuitive UI that students experience as simply being tutored*
Tech stack
TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js, Python, LLMs, Voice AI, Real-time systems, Multimodal AI
Seniority
0 - 4 years of experience in full-stack software engineering at high-caliber startups (TypeScript/Python)
Work experience
Worked at (or interned at) a high-growth startup or growth-stage tech company known for strong engineering (e.g., Ramp, Cursor, Sierra, Commure)
Shipped production code as a pure engineer (not PM/design hybrid roles)
Built LLM agents, voice systems, or real-time multimodal products
Education
Top 15 CS program (transfers in are a positive signal) OR compensated by working at a startup with a recognized strong engineering team
Evidence of high agency outside of work: hackathons, contributed to meaningful open source, shipped personal projects with real users, academic awards, or published research
Hard skills
Full-stack engineering: TypeScript/Next.js + Python
Experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, or agent frameworks (eagerness to learn fast is sufficient)
Backend-leaning with ability to build end-to-end systems
Soft skills
Opinionated about career direction: can articulate where they want to be in 5 years and why Aristotle specifically fits that plan
Miscellaneous
Based in or willing to relocate to SF;
available on-site 4 days/week
