Co-Founder & Database Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Design and develop database schemas.
2. Write stored procedures, triggers, and complex SQL queries.
3. Develop and maintain ORM models.
4. Build ETL pipelines for data ingestion from third-party integration.
5. Deploy containerized database services using Docker and Kubernetes.
6. Code and manage version-controlled database migrations.
7. Administer AWS cloud database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB).
8. Conduct performance tuning, index optimization, query analysis, and capacity planning.
9. Implement HIPAA-compliant security controls including encryption, RBAC, and audit logging.
10. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for investors.
11. Translate complex technical infrastructure decisions into accessible business narratives.
12. Prepare technical due diligence documentation including database cost models, architecture overviews, and security compliance summaries.
13. Coordinate with co-founders on investor decks and financial projections that depend on infrastructure cost assumptions.

Minimum Requirements

1. Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field — required due to the advanced theoretical knowledge demanded by HIPAA-compliant, multi-tenant SaaS database architecture.
2. Proficiency in SQL and at least one major RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server).
3. Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, or equivalent)
4. Hands-on experience with AWS cloud database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, Redshift, or equivalent)
5. Knowledge of database design principles including normalization, indexing, query optimization, and multi-tenant data isolation
6. Experience with containerized deployment environments (Docker and/or Kubernetes)
7. Understanding of data security practices including encryption at rest and in transit, RBAC, access control, and audit logging
8. Experience with version control systems (Git) and scripted, version-controlled database migrations
9. Minimum 5 years of progressive software or database engineering experience in a production environment

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior software development engineering experience at a large-scale technology company (e.g., hyperscale cloud or e-commerce platforms) with direct exposure to AWS-native data services
2. Prior DevOps engineering experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tooling
3. Familiarity with HIPAA data handling requirements and health-data compliance frameworks
4. Experience in a SaaS or health-tech startup environment
5. Knowledge of ETL pipeline tooling (Apache Kafka, Airflow, or equivalent)
6. Proficiency with BI/analytics tools (Snowflake, Tableau, Power BI)
7. Experience presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences including investors, clients, or board members
8. Experience managing or coordinating remote or offshore development teams
9. Demonstrated ability to contribute to revenue growth through technical client engagement or pre-sales support

Salary

Range: USD $76200 - 80,000 per year for 40 hours but this position is part time so salary will be pro rated to 20 hours.
