About the job
The Electrical Engineer owns the design, development, and lifecycle management of electrical systems embedded in UPPAbaby’s premium consumer product lines. Working within the Engineering team, this role is responsible for end-to-end electrical engineering deliverables — from schematic capture and PCB design through firmware development, supplier coordination, and post-launch backend support. The Electrical Engineer collaborates closely with internal cross-functional teams as well as third-party electrical and software design firms and Asian manufacturing partners, requiring strong technical capability combined with clear, proactive communication and ownership across multiple work streams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Own the full electrical engineering lifecycle: from concept and schematic capture through PCB layout, design verification, and mass production readiness.
· Develop and maintain hardware, firmware, and software specifications and documentation aligned with product requirements and UPPAbaby engineering standards.
· Design and validate analog and digital circuits for consumer product applications, including low-power and battery-managed devices.
· Develop and debug embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based platforms; implement and validate communication protocols including BLE, Wi-Fi, USB, SPI, and I²C for IoT-connected product features.
· Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Test) reviews to ensure efficient, cost-effective production at volume.
· Serve as the primary technical liaison with third-party electrical and software design firms — providing direction, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with UPPAbaby engineering standards.
· Coordinate with Asian manufacturing partners and suppliers — managing technical communication, validating EE deliverables, and supporting factory bring-up and production trials.
· Collaborate with Mechanical, Product, and Software teams to integrate electrical systems within complete product assemblies, and present engineering status and design decisions to internal stakeholders.
· Use lab instrumentation — oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters — to characterize, debug, and validate circuit behavior across development and production phases.
· Support global regulatory and safety certification compliance (FCC, CE, UL, RoHS) and define and execute test plans for functional and reliability validation of electrical systems.
· Maintain and evolve backend software support systems for deployed connected products, including sustaining engineering and ECO management post-launch.
· Proactively manage workload across simultaneous development programs; communicate risks, status, and design decisions clearly and on schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
· Strong communication skills; comfortable working across cross-functional internal teams and external partners with a proven structured approach to problem solving.
· A self-starter with proven critical thinking and ownership mindset — identifies problems and potential risks early and develops solutions that keep development on track.
· Proficiency in embedded systems programming; C/C++ required. Familiarity with Python or similar scripting language a plus.
· Circuit design experience including schematic capture and PCB layout; familiarity with Altium, Eagle, or equivalent EDA tools.
· Experience with IoT device development including wireless protocols (BLE, Wi-Fi) and cloud or backend system integration.
· Hardware/software/firmware integration experience; comfort working across the full embedded stack from board bring-up to application layer.
· Demonstrated ability to work directly with contract manufacturers or offshore suppliers on EE deliverables; experience with Asian supply chain partners preferred.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and programs simultaneously across internal and external stakeholders without loss of quality or schedule.
· Strong lab skills including use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters to debug and characterize complex electronic circuits.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field required.
· 3–5 years of hands-on electrical engineering experience in consumer electronics or durable consumer goods preferred; candidates with strong embedded systems or IoT backgrounds in adjacent industries will be considered.
· Demonstrated track record of shipping high-volume consumer electronics products from concept through mass production is a strong plus.
· Experience managing or coordinating work with external EE or software design firms, and direct experience working with Asian manufacturing partners, is highly valued.
