Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated FAE – Operation & Maintenance Engineer to join Quectel’s growing automation team based in Cleveland, Ohio. This entry-level role focuses on supporting automation business by providing on-site technical support for automated assembly and testing lines. You will partner with local sales and technical teams to deliver equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring customer satisfaction across the full equipment lifecycle.
Mandarin language proficiency is required for this position to facilitate effective communication with Quectel’s global engineering and R&D teams based in China.
Candidates must be based in Cleveland, Ohio or willing to relocate.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction & Commissioning
- Perform on-site installation, mechanical assembly, and electrical wiring of automated assembly and testing lines, ensuring hardware complies with design specifications
- Collaborate with R&D teams to conduct single-machine and online commissioning, testing and optimizing each function to meet design requirements
- Simulate actual production processes to verify operational stability and coordination of entire automated lines; identify and resolve communication faults and synchronization issues between devices
- Record commissioning issues, solutions, and results; provide detailed technical documentation for equipment acceptance and maintenance
Post-Operation & Maintenance
- Provide full on-site production support during initial production ramp-up, monitoring automated line status and resolving equipment failures in real time
- Coordinate with customer production, process, and quality departments to adjust and optimize equipment operating parameters, improving production efficiency and product quality
- Collect customer improvement suggestions and relay feedback to internal R&D and technical teams
- Develop and execute daily equipment maintenance plans, including regular inspections, cleaning, parts replacement, and preventive maintenance
- Diagnose and repair equipment faults quickly and accurately, minimizing downtime
- Maintain detailed equipment operation and maintenance records for lifecycle management
Customer Engagement
- Provide timely pre-sales and post-sales on-site technical support and troubleshooting
- Deliver product presentations and conduct product and tool training for customers on-site
- Analyze customer requirements and provide tangible feedback and feasible solutions
- Prepare technical reports indicating support activity and open issue progress
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
- Associate’s degree or above in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, or a related field
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience in automated equipment installation, commissioning, or maintenance (entry-level candidates with strong internship or co-op experience will be considered)
- Proficient in mechanical or electronic troubleshooting and debugging
- Basic understanding of automation systems and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with mechanical structure principles, electrical control technology, and commissioning methods for automated equipment
- Ability to cooperate with electrical engineers on PLC commissioning and I/O point docking
- Proficiency in Mandarin (required) for communication with global engineering teams
- Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and communication skills
- Willingness to travel and adapt to on-site project schedules
- Must be based in Cleveland, Ohio, US, or open to relocating
Preferred
- Experience with automated lines in the automotive or electronics manufacturing industry
- Familiarity with production processes and technical characteristics of automotive or IoT products
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
- Experience with Quectel or comparable IoT module products
