Cofounding Data Scientist (Remote, US Applicants only) – Founder Equity, Pre-Seed

Stage: Pre-Seed Startup

Commitment: 15–20 hours/week initially, with the expectation of increasing involvement as the company grows and transitioning to full-time after funding or meaningful commercial traction.

Compensation: Meaningful Founder Equity, competitive base+equity post funding

About the Opportunity

We are building a new category of enterprise AI software focused on helping organizations safely deploy, govern, and operate AI systems in production. Our founding team brings experience building and scaling cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and enterprise software products used by some of the world’s largest organizations.

We’re looking for a hands-on Cofounding Data Scientist who wants to help build both the product and the company from the ground up.

What You’ll Do

• Build and curate datasets that become a strategic asset for the company.
• Fine-tune, evaluate, and optimize open-source foundation models for enterprise use cases.
• Design ML pipelines for risk detection, classification, anomaly detection, and behavioral analysis.
• Develop data engineering workflows for data collection, processing, labeling, and evaluation.
• Work closely with product and engineering to productionize ML capabilities.
• Define model quality metrics, evaluation frameworks, and benchmarking methodologies.
• Engage with design partners and customers to understand real-world problems and translate them into product capabilities.
• Help shape product direction, technical architecture, hiring, and company strategy as a founding team member.

Requirements

• Strong background in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Applied AI.
• Experience building and managing datasets and data pipelines.
• Hands-on experience fine-tuning and evaluating open-source models (Llama, Mistral, Gemma, Qwen, DeepSeek, or similar).
• Functional data engineering experience, including ETL and large-scale data processing.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud services.
• Strong Python skills and familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment with significant ownership and ambiguity.

Nice to Have

• Experience leading enterprise software, machine learning, or data science projects.
• Experience building production AI systems used by enterprise customers.
• Familiarity with LLMs, AI agents, RAG architectures, model evaluation, or AI governance.
• Experience in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, or enterprise SaaS.
• Prior startup, founder, or early-stage experience.
