Platform Engineering Leader - AI Scientific Lab / AWS, Python, Linux

We're working with a genomics company on a mission to accelerate new cures and promote a healthier planet — used daily by 70,000+ scientists including Nobel laureates and Fortune 100 pharma. They revolutionised plasmid sequencing and are now expanding across all of genomics. We're looking for a technical lead to own the compute, data, AI, and security infrastructure that makes our entire sequencing operation run — from lab device orchestration to AI agents that monitor quality, coordinate global logistics, and run adaptive bioinformatics analysis.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Build and own core services that orchestrate lab devices — robots, sequencers, on-prem Linux servers — and the pipelines that ingest and process the data they generate.

• Design and operate the cloud data pipelines that house, process, and deliver terabytes of sequencing data to scientists — reliably, at the speed discovery requires.

• Design the infrastructure — queues, workflow orchestration, scheduling — that coordinates millions of bioinformatics tasks reliably and at scale.

• Build the systems that power three classes of agent: Quality Scientist agents that monitor operations end-to-end; Logistics agents that coordinate drivers globally; and Bioinformatics Coding agents that run adaptive analysis across diverse sample types.

• Lead ambiguous, cross-functional projects from idea to production — and help the engineers around you grow through rigorous technical feedback and clear communication.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

✓ 6+ years in platform, backend, or infrastructure engineering — with meaningful startup experience as the company scaled (seed to Series C)

✓ Strong AWS orchestration — ECS, Batch, Step Functions — and Python backend (FastAPI/Django)

✓Deep experience designing and shipping reliable distributed systems — queues, orchestration, state machines — to production

✓Hands-on experience building LLM/agent systems — tooling, evaluation, safety, and workflow design

✓Linux server administration and distributed task queues (Celery/SQS)

✓Former founder or founding engineer — a strong plus; we want people who know what it means to own outcomes, not just tasks
