The Energy Storage Application Engineer will support HyperStrong’s Americas energy storage business by delivering pre-sale technical solutions and ensuring a smooth transition to project execution. This role focuses on proposal development, product workshops, system configuration design, compliance review, and technical documentation throughout the pre-NTP (Notice to Proceed) phase. The engineer will also assist with collecting customer feedback and supporting product improvement initiatives.
This role requires hands-on technical experience in ESS or renewable energy systems, strong problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to coordinate across cross-functional teams. This position reports to the North America Director of Application Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical lead from early engagement to NTP, including RFP analysis, solution design, and customer interfacing.
- Develop technical proposals and drawings based on customer specifications and system requirements.
- Interpret and ensure adherence to UL and Unites States electrical and safety regulations (including NFPA, IEEE, & IEC where applicable)
- Participate in product compliance, gap analysis, and technical risk reviews during the sales process.
- Gather feedback from customers, partners, and regional EPCs to inform solution development and roadmap prioritization.
- Coordinate with Product and R&D teams to support feature enhancement, certifications, and cost-performance optimization.
- Provide guidance on system integration topics, including layout, controls, communication, thermal, and fire protection.
- Participate in marketing and product positioning efforts, including technical presentations at trade shows across the US
Minimum Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry (ESS or EPC preferred).
- 3+ years in a technical role (application, system, or project engineering).
- Solid understanding of battery systems, PCS, thermal/fire protection, and system layout.
- Familiarity with relevant standards (NFPA, UL, IEEE etc.).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar tools.
- Strong communication, documentation, and customer-facing presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements. Ability to travel internationally, including Canada, is required.
- Bilingual preferred (English and Mandarin).
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
Travel & Work Conditions:
- 25-50% travel (customer meetings, site support, industry events).
- Full-time, remote (US based, preferred Texas or California).
- Occasional international travel.
