Purpose:
This role acts as a primary technical lead for suspension damper design and development in vehicle program applications. The Application Engineer is responsible for functioning as the primary point of contact for OEM customers regarding Mando damper design and development.
Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):
Act as a technical lead for suspension damper and damper module programs
Primary interface – serve as the primary interface with the customer’s program engineers for technical issues, design changes, and development status tracking
Coordination and management – coordinate and manage program launch activities with colleagues in Korea and Mexico, and the OEM customer
New Business Pursuit – evaluate customer requirements, develop compliant responses, and negotiate acceptable alternatives as part of the team
Program Timing – create, maintain, and track engineering timelines during quoting and post-award phases; support manufacturing deliverables in coordination with Program Management
Open Issues – manage the open issues list and coordinate with Program Management on resolution efforts; organize and lead internal and customer meetings
DVP&R – lead DV and PV testing activities with cross-functional support; present results to customers and negotiate countermeasure timing
Prototype builds – manage prototype builds in collaboration with the design engineer, test coordinator, and Program Management
Gate reviews – gather information for gate reviews in coordination with Program Management and the extended team
Problem Solving – resolve technical issues during component testing, customer vehicle development, and regular production
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Equivalent Core Education. Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in suspension or 10 years of chassis experience
Skills and Competencies:
Understanding of OEM validation requirements
Strong problem solving
Comprehension of FEA/CAE reporting
Ability to coordinate and track goals and objectives on multiple programs, driving tasks to completion
Ability to set priorities and occasionally operate in an unstructured environment to meet goals
Working Conditions:
Office environment
Occasional domestic and international travel
Occasional lab work handling and evaluating physical parts
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs.
Remote Work: Eligible for hybrid work schedule
