Position Summary

Amkor Technology Arizona is seeking an experienced facilities Controls System Engineer, responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, and operation of facility control systems for Amkor’s OSAT factory. This includes PLC, DCS, and SCADA platforms supporting HVAC, ultrapure water, wastewater treatment, gas and chemical systems, and life safety systems. The role ensures reliable, efficient, and safe operation of automated control systems throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Responsibilities will evolve throughout the project lifecycle, ranging from design and commissioning to full-scale operations, requiring adaptability and a proactive approach to each phase.

  • Collaborate with instrumentation and controls design vendors to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Review engineering drawings, submittals, and monitor construction progress.
  • Support commissioning activities, including equipment preparation and operational testing.
  • Identify and resolve abnormalities during construction and start-up phases.
  • Manage documentation, manuals, and handover processes for control systems.
  • Provide engineering support for operation and maintenance of PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems.
  • Respond to facility interruptions across HVAC, process systems, UPW, WWT, gas and chemical systems, and life safety systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and trend evaluations for facilities-related incidents.
  • Modify control logic and programming to enhance system performance and prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain an instrument calibration program for transmitters, control valves, and positioners.
  • Perform system capacity planning, troubleshooting, and sustaining activities to meet production demands.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Apply reliability engineering principles, including FMEA and root cause analysis, to improve system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and corporate control system guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities control systems engineering (design and operations), preferably in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, PID controllers, and variable frequency drives.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Familiarity with HMI operator interfaces and industrial communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering tools.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in semiconductor facility design, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and awkward positions.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs. and adjust heavy objects.
  • Exposure to sharp, hot, and cold equipment.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at elevation, and in confined spaces with PPE.

Location:

This position will be based at the Arizona Tempe and Peoria sites during the Construction phase and will transition to Peoria for management during the Factory Operation phase.
