Software Engineer - II
Experience: 3+ years
Role type: Backend / Systems / Infrastructure
About Aurva
Aurva is building agentic security infrastructure for enterprises.
As AI agents, services, copilots, scripts, and non-human identities start acting across enterprise systems, security teams need to answer a new set of questions:
Who actually caused this action?
Which identity or credential was used?
What data was accessed?
Was the access appropriate?
Aurva helps teams answer this at runtime.
We give security teams visibility into how data is accessed, which identities and agents are involved, what permissions are actually used, and where access needs to be reduced or controlled.
Aurva is backed by Nexus Venture Partners and leading angels in the US. We are an early-stage team building deep security infrastructure across data, identity, runtime systems, and AI agents.
About the Role
We are looking for a senior Software Engineer who can own hard problems end to end.
This is not a ticket-execution role. You will work closely with the founders and engineering leads to understand customer problems, design systems, write production-grade code, debug issues, and ship product.
We care about engineers who move fast, think clearly, and take ownership.
We also expect you to use AI coding tools well. Not as a replacement for engineering judgment, but as leverage for writing, testing, debugging, refactoring, and understanding code faster. You should know how to use AI to increase velocity without shipping poor-quality code.
What You’ll Work On
- Runtime security and observability systems.
- Identity, credential, and access analysis.
- Data access monitoring across databases, cloud systems, and applications.
- Agentic security workflows involving AI agents, services, and non-human identities.
- Backend systems that process high-volume security telemetry.
- Policy, detection, and enforcement systems.
- Performance-critical components in Go, C, C++, Rust, or similar languages.
- Infrastructure that needs to be reliable, scalable, and secure.
Responsibilities
- Own major product and engineering areas from design to production.
- Build scalable backend and systems software.
- Write clean, efficient, maintainable code.
- Use AI coding tools to improve development speed and quality.
- Convert ambiguous product problems into clear technical designs.
- Debug complex issues across distributed systems, databases, cloud, networking, and production workloads.
- Review code and raise engineering standards.
- Mentor other engineers where needed.
- Work directly with founders, product, and customer-facing teams.
- Push back when something does not make sense.
- Take responsibility for product quality, not just assigned tasks.
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of strong software engineering experience.
- Strong coding ability in Go, C, C++, Rust, or similar languages.
- Strong fundamentals in operating systems, distributed systems, databases, networking, or security.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments.
- High ownership and strong execution.
- Good system design and debugging skills.
- Ability to read and improve large codebases quickly.
- Comfort using AI coding tools as part of your daily workflow.
- Strong judgment on when to move fast and when to slow down for correctness.
- Clear communication and willingness to challenge assumptions.
Good to Have
- Experience with eBPF, Linux internals, kernel-level systems, networking, or low-level observability.
- Experience building security, infrastructure, data, cloud, or developer tools products.
- Experience with Kubernetes, AWS/GCP/Azure, databases, queues, or high-scale backend systems.
- Experience in early-stage startups or 0 to 1 product environments.
- Interest in agentic security, AI security, data security, identity, or access control.
Who Will Do Well Here
You will do well at Aurva if you:
- Like owning problems, not just tasks.
- Can operate without constant direction.
- Care about shipping fast and shipping right.
- Use AI tools to move faster, but do not outsource your judgment.
- Have strong technical taste.
- Can debug deeply instead of guessing.
- Want to work close to customers and founders.
- Want your work to directly shape the product and company.
Why Aurva
- Work on a new and important security category: agentic security.
- Build deep infrastructure from the early stages.
- Own meaningful product and architecture decisions.
- Work directly with experienced founders and a strong engineering team.
- Solve hard problems across data, identity, runtime systems, and AI agents.
- Competitive compensation with equity.
- High ownership, high impact, and fast growth.
Perks and Benefits
- Company equity.
- Meals, snacks, lunch, and dinner covered.
- Comfortable office space.
- Brand-new laptop and technical setup.
- Direct access to founders and leadership.
- High-ownership environment with real scope to grow.
