The Reliability Engineer – Fixed Equipment is responsible for improving equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and overall Mechanical Integrity with a primary focus on pressure vessels and piping systems. This role manages inspections, testing, audits, and the site’s Pressure Vessel Owner-User and piping inspection programs while serving as a key technical resource for ASME codes, National Board Inspection Codes, and API inspection standards. The position supports broader reliability initiatives, leads failure investigations, ensures compliance with state and national regulations, and collaborates closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams to extend asset life and reduce equipment failures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the site’s pressure vessel and piping inspection programs, optimizing inspection intervals and methodologies.
  • Oversee internal and contract inspectors to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant inspection activities.
  • Maintain the Pressure Vessel Quality Control Manual and supporting procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME codes, National Board requirements, and applicable state regulations.
  • Support Mechanical Integrity, predictive maintenance, and maintenance strategy development efforts.
  • Conduct and lead failure investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Develop and track key metrics to identify recurring reliability issues or emerging risks.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce equipment failures.
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP documentation practices and site quality standards.
  • Uphold and promote Environmental, Safety, Health & Security (ESHS) requirements and safe work practices.
  • Report deviations, hazards, and safety concerns promptly to supervision.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance to ensure long-term asset reliability and compliance.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in material science, engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience with pressure vessels, piping, welding, corrosion, metallurgy, or Mechanical Integrity programs.
  • Experience in maintenance, reliability, inspection, or nondestructive testing.
  • Ability to obtain National Board or State of Indiana Pressure Vessel Inspection Commission or API 510 certification, plus API 570 certification.
  • Correctable vision to 20/20 as required by code.
  • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and access tanks and vessel interiors.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and reliability program improvement skills.
  • Knowledge of ASME Sections VIII, V, IX, NBIC, and API 570 requirements.
  • Experience performing failure analysis and developing maintenance strategies.
  • Preferred experience working with glass-lined vessels.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams.
