Job Description

This is a remote position.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer (AWS / SaaS Platform)

First Due, a leading public safety software company, is searching for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to help lead the evolution of our mission-critical SaaS platform. This role will drive strategic cloud infrastructure projects on AWS, enhance system reliability, and ensure our services scale seamlessly as we grow. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with a strategic mindset, helping shape the future of our cloud and data architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute strategic infrastructure initiatives across AWS to ensure scalability, security, and reliability of our production systems.
  • Design, build, and maintain core infrastructure services, including networking, compute, storage, and CI/CD pipelines supporting a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
  • Develop and implement proactive monitoring and alerting systems to ensure optimal performance and early detection of issues.
  • Improve observability through better logging, metrics, and tracing to drive faster root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure infrastructure supports fast, safe deployments and high uptime SLAs.
  • Assist in defining and executing the cloud infrastructure roadmap, including long-term scalability, cost optimization, and automation goals.
  • Own and optimize PostgreSQL database operations, while also evaluating and recommending future data storage and management technologies (e.g., NoSQL, managed data services, or distributed databases).
  • Enhance disaster recovery, high availability, and incident response strategies for critical services.
  • Contribute to security posture improvements, including IAM design, encryption, network security, and compliance alignment.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices for infrastructure-as-code, automation, and cloud governance.

The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities required of this role.

Key Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • 5–8+ years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, including AWS services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudFormation, Lambda, and VPC design.
  • Strong background in Linux systems administration and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible or similar).
  • Proven experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of networking, security best practices, and CI/CD automation.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, and scaling in a cloud environment.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, Go, etc.).
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance innovation, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with cross-functional teams.
  • A passion for building resilient, automated systems that scale with the business.
  • The initiative to identify and lead improvements in infrastructure efficiency and reliability.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms.
  • Knowledge of data infrastructure beyond relational databases (e.g., DynamoDB, Redis, or Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with distributed systems design and resilient architectures.
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO27001, HIPAA, NIST 800-53, PCI DSS) and secure infrastructure patterns.
  • Prior experience in SaaS environments or other high-availability production systems.
