Front End Engineer

We are looking for Frontend Developers to join our Engineering team. As a member of the core Engineering team, you would be focusing on our platform design and development, and would also get to dabble with exciting ideas in the field of Machine Learning and data science. You would be responsible for driving the development of interfaces for all of our product features and services, while also working towards ensuring that we are building a great platform based a solid foundation of strong technical practices.

We are looking for engineers who are comfortable with the JS stack and wish to develop and hone their skills and experience by working in a challenging environment at an early stage startup.

Our vision is to democratise AI by leveraging our expertise in the field of research, software development and product engineering - to build a platform that brings otherwise inaccessible deep tech for everyone to use.

Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain responsive, performant, and accessible user interfaces using React and TypeScript.
Translate UI/UX designs into clean, reusable, and efficient front-end code.
Work closely with back-end engineers to integrate APIs and define data contracts.
Participate in architectural discussions to develop scalable and maintainable front-end systems.
Write and maintain automated tests to ensure reliability and quality of the UI.
Implement best practices for code quality, performance, and security.
Maintain consistency across the application by contributing to a design system or component library.
Actively participate in code reviews and pair programming sessions.
Document component behavior, edge cases, and user flows.
Stay up-to-date with the latest front-end trends, tools, and best practices.

Required Skills:

1. Strong Proficiency in Core Web Technologies JavaScript (ES6+): Deep understanding of core concepts including asynchronous programming (Promises, async/await), closures, scope, and modern ES6+ features. CSS3: Solid grasp of layout techniques (Flexbox, Grid), responsive design principles, and experience with CSS preprocessors (Sass, Less). Strong foundation in HTML5 semantics and accessibility best practices.
2. React Expertise Extensive experience building complex UIs with React, including functional components, hooks, component lifecycle, and routing. Practical knowledge of performance-focused design and modular architecture. Working knowledge of concepts of DOM Manipulation, Service Workers, Web Sockets, Web API, Progressive Web Applications.
3. UI Design Systems / Component Libraries Demonstrated experience working with component libraries such as Material UI (MUI) (preferred). Familiarity with Tailwind CSS. Ability to extend or customize design systems to match product needs.
4. State Management Hands-on experience with at least one client-side state management solution. Redux Toolkit (RTK) is strongly preferred. Experience using libraries like RTK Query (preferred), SWR, or React Query to manage data fetching, caching, and server-side state effectively.
5. Performance Optimization Proven ability to enhance frontend performance through code splitting, lazy loading, memoization, and efficient API handling. Familiarity with debugging tools and performance profilers (e.g., Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools).
6. Clean Code & Best Practices Strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable code following SOLID principles and established style guides. Familiar with linting/formatting tools such as ESLint and Prettier.
7. Version Control Proficient with Git, including branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and working in collaborative team environments.
8. Web Development Fundamentals Solid understanding of HTTP, RESTful APIs, browser rendering behavior, and use of browser dev tools for debugging and optimization.
9. Communication & Collaboration Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including backend engineers, designers, and product managers. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and participating in sprint planning, standups, and retros.
