Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and safety-conscious Tractor and harvester Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and maintain agricultural machinery. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe operations across multiple locations and directly contributes to our agricultural transformation mission. You will be responsible for routine inspections, maintenance, and technical support to equipment operators.
Location
This position is based in Doma LGA, Nasarawa State, with operators deployed nationwide. Offset accommodation and meal tickets are provided.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Develop and implement routine maintenance and inspection schedules for tractors and harvesters to maximize efficiency and reliability.
- Conduct feasibility studies and performance analyses of current and proposed machinery designs.
- Create technical documentation and specifications for agricultural machinery enhancements.
Testing & Evaluation
Perform rigorous testing and evaluation of machinery components and systems.
Identify performance issues, propose improvements, and implement effective solutions.
Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, greasing, refueling, and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Perform walk-around inspections before and after shifts, documenting issues and required repairs.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (designers, manufacturers, and field technicians) to integrate machinery seamlessly into farming operations.
- Provide technical support and training to farmers and operators on proper use and maintenance.
Safety & Quality Assurance
- Uphold high standards of quality and safety in all engineering practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
- Research & Development
- Stay current with the latest advancements in agricultural machinery technology and best practices.
- Participate in R&D projects aimed at improving operational efficiency and sustainability.
Experience & Technical Skills
Education & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required. Advanced certifications or professional training in agricultural machinery are a plus.
- 5 years proven experience in repairing, maintaining, or developing agricultural machinery.
- Experience in a farming environment is preferred.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
- Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic systems in heavy machinery.
- Proficient in creating and interpreting technical documentation and maintenance schedules.
Physical & Safety Requirements
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work under varying weather conditions.
- Testing: Must pass DOT-required drug and alcohol tests.
