Born in Silicon Valley, Kampenture is reimagining outdoor travel through technology. We're building a comprehensive platform that seamlessly connects nature enthusiasts with sustainable accommodations, scenic rail journeys, and authentic outdoor experiences across Europe. As a fast-growing travel tech startup, we're seeking a visionary CTO to lead our technical strategy and build innovative solutions that make sustainable travel accessible to everyone.

The Role

We're looking for a passionate and experienced CTO to join our founding team and lead Kampenture's technical vision and execution. You'll be responsible for building and scaling our technology infrastructure, leading our engineering team, and ensuring our platform delivers exceptional experiences to both travelers and hosts.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Vision

  • Define and execute Kampenture's technical strategy and roadmap
  • Architect scalable solutions for our multi-vertical platform (accommodations, rail transport, city transfers, experiences)
  • Make critical technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and sustainability
  • Lead security, reliability, and performance initiatives
  • Drive innovation in sustainable travel technology

Team Leadership

  • Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team
  • Establish engineering best practices and coding standards
  • Create a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
  • Manage technical recruiting and team development
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture

Product & Business Impact

  • Work closely with product teams to deliver innovative features
  • Collaborate with founders on strategic business decisions
  • Manage technology budgets and resources effectively
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including investors and partners
  • Drive technical due diligence for future funding rounds

Required Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience
  • Deep expertise in our tech stack:
    • Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript
    • Backend: Nest.js, Node.js
    • Cloud: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS)
    • Database: PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture
  • Experience with high-scale, consumer-facing applications

Leadership & Experience

  • Track record of building and leading engineering teams
  • Startup experience, preferably in early-stage companies
  • Strong project and resource management skills
  • Experience with agile methodologies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Experience with travel tech, booking systems, or marketplace platforms is a plus
  • Understanding of sustainability in technology
  • Startup mindset and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
