About the job

About Us

At Harvested Robotics, we are revolutionizing sustainable farming through cutting-edge AI and robotic solutions. Our tractor-mounted laser weeding technology integrates advanced robotics, machine learning, and precision engineering to provide farmers with efficient, chemical-free, and cost-effective weed management tools.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in designing robust, field-ready systems for challenging agricultural environments. This role focuses on the development of the mechanical components of our tractor-mounted laser weeder, ensuring durability, efficiency, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in CAD modeling, stress and vibration analysis, and prototyping, as well as a passion for innovation in agricultural machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop detailed CAD models and engineering drawings for the laser weeder's core components, including laser module housings, structural supports, and tractor-mounting mechanisms.
  • Perform stress, vibration, and durability analysis to ensure system reliability under harsh field conditions, including rough terrain and continuous operation.
  • Optimize designs for agricultural environments, accounting for factors such as dust, moisture, and temperature variations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including robotics and electronics engineers, to integrate mechanical designs seamlessly into the overall system.
  • Prototype and iterate on designs using rapid fabrication techniques like 3D printing and CNC machining.
  • Work with vendors to adapt designs to manufacturing standards and ensure quality control during production.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, analysis reports, and safety compliance documents.
  • Identify and implement design improvements to enhance durability, efficiency, and ease of maintenance for field operations.
  • Participate in field trials to test prototypes, diagnose issues, and iteratively refine designs based on real-world performance.
  • Stay updated on advancements in materials, manufacturing techniques, and agricultural machinery trends to innovate and improve product designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in mechanical design, preferably in industrial or agricultural machinery.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar for creating detailed models and drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of stress, vibration, and durability analysis for mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping techniques, including 3D printing and CNC machining.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and the ability to collaborate with vendors to ensure design feasibility and production efficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt designs to dynamic and challenging field conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience designing mechanical systems for agricultural machinery or other field equipment.
  • Familiarity with environmental challenges such as dust-proofing, water resistance, and temperature resilience in mechanical designs.
  • Knowledge of agricultural machinery standards and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to innovate and improve mechanical systems in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
