About the job
We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.
As a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will develop the design, implementation, and testing of aircraft control systems. Your work will enable the integration of uncrewed aircraft into the National Airspace System.
Responsibilities
- Define GNC system requirements and architecture in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Design guidance system features to interface seamlessly with flight control systems and pilot displays
- Implement GNC algorithms in simulation and flight software
- Reduce and analyze simulation, lab and flight test data
- Evaluate control system performance and behavior via simulation, hardware-in-loop and flight test cases
- Document and communicate system design, performance, behavior, and limitations to pilots, operations personnel, software developers and certifying authorities
Basic Success Criteria
- BS in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar advanced degree
- 2+ years professional experience developing control systems, flight dynamics simulators, navigation algorithms and/or flight control algorithms
- Professional C/C++ and Python software development experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Success Criteria
- MS or PhD in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar advanced degree
- Technical expertise in one of the following areas: motion planning, control systems, probability theory, optimization
- Experience developing software for safety critical applications
- Experience with FAA certification processes
- Current pilot, instrument or commercial rating
