The Opportunity: Senior Frontend Web Engineer (Remote - Canada)

Ground News is looking for a skilled Senior Frontend Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will be instrumental in crafting exceptional, groundbreaking news experiences. Your expertise in building high-performance web applications with Next.js, coupled with a deep understanding of server-side components and generative AI tooling, will be essential in delivering cutting-edge solutions.

What You'll Do:

• Pioneering Next.js Development: Lead the development of cutting-edge web applications using Next.js, leveraging its server-side rendering and app router capabilities to optimize performance and user experience.

• Crafting Immersive User Experiences: Design and implement intuitive, visually stunning user interfaces that captivate and engage our audience.

• Optimizing for Performance: Obsess over performance metrics, employing advanced techniques like code splitting, lazy loading, and image optimization to ensure lightning-fast load times and seamless interactions.

• Leveraging AI-Powered Tools: Embrace the power of generative AI to accelerate development, automate tasks, and enhance creativity.

• Collaborating Across Teams: Partner closely with designers, backend engineers, and product managers to bring innovative ideas to life.

• Mentoring and Leading: Share your expertise and inspire the team through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.

What You'll Have:

• Deep Expertise in React and Next.js: Proven experience building complex web applications using React and Next.js, with a strong understanding of their core concepts and best practices.

• Performance Optimization Mastery: A keen eye for performance optimization, with a track record of improving website speed and responsiveness.

• Server-Side Rendering Proficiency: Experience with server-side rendering techniques to enhance SEO and initial page load performance.

• AI Tooling Savviness: Familiarity with AI-powered tools like GitHub Copilot or other generative AI platforms to streamline development workflows.

• A Passion for Innovation: A drive to explore new technologies and approaches to push the boundaries of web development.

• Strong Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable tasks and find creative solutions.

• Excellent Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
