Summary

We are looking for a passionate, innovative, and user-obsessed Product Designer to join our team at Subject. As a Product Designer, you will play a critical role in shaping our user experience, crafting intuitive and visually compelling designs that empower learners, educators, and administrators. You’ll work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers and educators to create delightful and impactful design solutions that help students thrive.

This is not your average product design role—we don’t have traditional product managers. At Subject, we ask our designers to be holistic product thinkers. This is an opportunity for a Product Designer who wants to both leverage their design skills and have a significant impact on the overall direction of the product. You’ll contribute to ideation, documentation, and delivery of features, playing a pivotal role in the end-to-end product development process.

For this position, we are looking for a designer with exceptional visual design skills—a super creative visual designer who wants to do more than just design screens and flows. We need someone who can elevate the visual language of our product with innovative and imaginative design, bringing a fresh perspective to how students and educators experience learning.

Finally, we are a team that is highly talented and highly committed. We ask a lot of each other, including long days (starting by 8am), long weeks (60 hours), and collaboration in-person in our Beverly Hills office. In return we get to solve hard and meaningful problems for students and teachers across the country. We’re looking for someone who is excited about the mission and ready to put the time in to elevate our work.

The Opportunity

As a Product Designer at Subject, you will:

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with engineers and other stakeholders to create user-centered designs aligned with business goals.
  • Craft Intuitive Solutions: Design user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, and polished interfaces that address user needs and pain points.
  • Champion Design Excellence: Ensure that designs are visually stunning, functional, and accessible, maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Think Holistically: Contribute to the overall product strategy, ideating and documenting features that align with the company’s vision and mission.
  • Push Visual Boundaries: Bring innovative visual design skills to the table, crafting creative and impactful designs that go beyond traditional UI expectations.
  • Advocate for the User: Incorporate user research, feedback, and data into design decisions, championing the voice of the student, teacher, and administrator.
  • Iterate Rapidly: Embrace a fast-paced environment, delivering designs quickly while balancing quality and user experience.
  • Contribute to the Design System: Enhance and maintain our design system to ensure consistency across products and platforms.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in product design or a related field, preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your skills in UX, interaction design, and visual design, with examples of innovative and creative work.
  • Excellence with Figma.
  • Experience with user research methods and applying insights to your designs.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to balance user needs with business goals.
  • Passion for education and designing products that make a meaningful impact.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
