Senior Contract Front-End Engineer

Overview

Bayou Energy is looking for an experienced Front-End Developer with expertise in React and MobX to join our team on a contract basis. You’ll work closely with our engineering and product teams to enhance the user experience, ensure consistent UI/UX quality, and build intuitive, high-performance interfaces, shaping the experience for both our customers and our customers’ customers. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a proven track record of delivering high-quality front-end code in fast-paced environments.

This is a remote-first contractor position. Initially, this is a short-term contract of ~one month, with potential for continued development work after the initial phase.

About Bayou Energy

Bayou Energy is an early stage startup that provides a suite of APIs for companies to deploy clean energy devices such as solar panels, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and batteries across diverse utility providers.

The growing demand for clean energy technology is creating new challenges for companies, and Bayou’s product suite delivers the tools to address these needs: reliable access to end-user utility data, precise utility bill calculations, and a streamlined billing experience that communicates savings effectively.

Candidate must-haves

• Strong alignment with Bayou’s mission and values and excitement about building a high-impact climate tech company
• Experience working on front-end development in clean energy or climate tech is a plus
• Comfort working in a remote, early-stage startup environment
• Proven front-end development experience (5+ years), with expertise in React and MobX
• Strong proficiency in CSS frameworks (experience with Bootstrap is a plus; open to other frameworks)
• Experience building and launching user interfaces that include interactive data visualizations, user account management, or API integration
• A strong portfolio or examples of recent projects showcasing your work
• Familiarity with UX design principles and working with design tools such as Figma

What will the work be?

• Collaborate with CEO and CTO to understand Bayou’s business and customer needs
• Develop front-end components for:
  1. Consumer utility account connection form
  2. Bayou’s customer dashboard and data visualization pages
  3. Bayou’s website
• Participate in remote collaboration, including video calls as needed, to align on progress and feedback

Compensation

• Cash Compensation: Competitive hourly rate that respects both your expertise and our startup stage
• Contract Duration: 2-4 week contract, with the possibility of extension based on mutual fit and project needs
