The Wow
As a Data Engineering Team Lead, you will lead a team of talented people and take overall responsibility for team performance and will contribute to designing and developing our platform to fulfil the business needs and to also improve our systems. Within this capacity you will have the chance to design new data pipelines, maintain platforms hosted on data streams for batch-loading. The chosen candidate will work closely with our data tracking team helping to process customer behavioural data.
A taster of what you will be involved with:
The team lead will be expected to allocate half of the time on team leadership and the other half on data engineering work.
As a People Lead:
- Build a high performing team with the right mix of skills and knowledge.
- Motivate the team to maintain high technical standards and collaborate with Tech Leads and Architect.
- Ensure that team processes and routines are defined, organised, and continuously reviewed and optimised.
- Resolve/escalate impediments to team performance.
- Main point of contact for the team, facilitating open communication and co-ordination with other teams.
As a Data Engineer:
- Maintaining and evolving our existing data platform while documenting well processes and perform knowledge sharing sessions.
- Applying transformations to data streams, involving data modelling following data standards such as Inmon, Kimball, Data Vault. All work is done while ensuring data quality by verifying data consistency and accuracy.
- Keeping up to date on research and development of new technologies and techniques to enhance our data platform.
- Have an investigative mindset to be able to troubleshoot – thinking outside the box when it comes to troubleshooting problems and incident management.
- Full ownership on projects and tasks assigned together with being able to work within a team.
You’re good with
- Experience in database scripts SQL, PLSQL, T-SQL, and Analytical function in SQL;
- Have development experience in both Microsoft, Linux or cloud environment;
- Have experience with data Integration tools and data warehousing concepts;
- Knowledge with orchestrating data pipelines using SSIS, Airflow or NiFi;
- Be familiar with any Programming Languages like .NET, Java, or Python;
- Have a good understanding of Big Data and cloud technologies - AWS and Snowflake;
- Familiar with software versioning tools like Git;
- Leading teams with more than 2 years working in a leadership role
- Direct line management of people in the team, being accountable for their performance, satisfaction, and career development planning.
- Assist your line manager in any matters that may be further delegated to you
- Time management, with the expectation that your time would be split 50/50 between team leadership and technical work.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Stakeholder management and work prioritisation.
- Working independently, without supervision, effectively prioritise and handle multiple tasks and projects.
- Possess excellent English communication skills.
