The Opportunity
You'll be working directly with our Senior Director of Product Management, Catherine Chan, within our engineering team to shape and scale the architecture of our platform. You will collaborate closely with our operations team, led by Dylan Berkenfeld (COO), to build impactful solutions. As the Lead Engineer, you will play a critical role in technical leadership and strategic decision-making, helping to transform clinical trials with innovative, scalable software solutions.
Your responsibilities are broken down into three different viewpoints:
0 ft - Execution/Individual Contributor-based work (60%)
- Lead the technical architecture and build scalable, high-quality, and maintainable solutions for our platform.
- Write clean, testable code, and establish best engineering practices that align with Leapcure’s security and compliance needs.
- Collaborate with other engineers to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for performance.
- Implement and refine technical designs for new features, ensuring they align with product vision and user needs.
- Conduct code reviews, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and foster a culture of quality and collaboration.
- Stay updated on the latest engineering trends, frameworks, and best practices to ensure our tech stack remains at the cutting edge.
10,000 ft - Team Culture and Collaboration (25%)
- Help foster a culture of technical excellence, creativity, and innovation across engineering and product teams.
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering and other departments (such as product management and customer success) to ensure a holistic product development process.
- Guide technical discussions, propose system improvements, and actively contribute to our technical roadmap.
30,000 ft - Engineering Strategy and Vision (15%)
- Influence engineering strategy by bringing a system-wide perspective to the table, collaborating with leadership to ensure our technology aligns with long-term business goals.
- Promote a technical culture of continuous improvement, where learnings are shared and applied to future projects.
- Define success metrics for engineering initiatives and establish KPIs to track the performance and impact of new features and system enhancements.
- Love to have ownership of the end-to-end development process and work independently on a small team where you will have a lot of impact.
What you bring to the table
You will thrive at Leapcure if you:
- Have a strong technical background with 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, preferably in Ruby on Rails and AWS environments.
- Are a systems thinker who can design scalable, secure, and reliable architectures in a high-growth, rapidly changing environment.
- Have a track record of technical leadership in building and maintaining complex, customer-facing platforms, ideally in the healthcare or clinical research space.
- Enjoy leading by example and mentoring a team, empowering them to do their best work.
- Are passionate about driving impact in healthcare technology and believe in leveraging tech for good.
- Have excellent communication skills, can translate complex technical concepts into non-technical terms, and work cross-functionally with product, sales, and marketing teams.
- Adapt quickly to change and are comfortable navigating uncertainty, turning challenges into opportunities.

- System Uptime: Aim for 99.5% with no more than 2 incidents in 6 months.
- Code Reviews/Technical Debt: Reduce technical debt by 10% in a year.
