Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Shape and own the entire technical infrastructure from the ground up, with full autonomy in technical decisions
- Build and lead the engineering team from its early stages, defining the technical culture and engineering practices
- Work directly with founders to translate product vision into technical reality
- Make critical architectural decisions that will form the foundation for years to come
- Hands-on development alongside team leadership, diving into code when needed
Technical Leadership:
- Design and implement the core architecture for our AI-powered SLR platform
- Make strategic technical decisions balancing speed, scalability, and maintainability
- Drive rapid iteration cycles while maintaining high-quality standards
- Actively participate in customer discussions to understand pharmaceutical industry needs
- Navigate technical challenges in AI/ML implementation for medical literature analysis
DevOps & Infrastructure:
- Establish cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices from first principles
- Build and optimize deployment pipelines for rapid iteration
- Implement security measures meeting pharmaceutical industry standards
- Design scalable architecture supporting multiple concurrent systematic reviews
- Set up monitoring and alerting systems essential for pharmaceutical use cases
Team Development:
- Recruit and lead the initial engineering team, setting the bar for technical excellence
- Create an engineering culture that attracts top talent
- Mentor engineers while maintaining a hands-on approach
- Foster close collaboration between engineering, AI researchers, and domain experts
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with 2+ years in engineering leadership
- Experience building systems from scratch and scaling them effectively
- Strong background in cloud architecture (AWS) and modern DevOps practices
- Expertise in Python and Node.js ecosystems
- Experience with AI/ML systems and large language models
- Track record of making critical technical decisions in ambiguous environments
- Ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic delivery
- Strong understanding of security requirements in regulated industries
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
