About the job
At DeepSigns, we're building tools to transform how the construction industry handles complex documents. We've already shown we can cut processing time by >95% while also beating human review accuracy on average for our first customer/design partner, and this initial solution is estimated to be capable of saving millions of hours of labor annually within their specialized corner of Construction. They've helped us validate our technology, and our aim is to upend document processing across the broader construction ecosystem.
Our initial implementation was purpose-built for our partner's specific needs, but we maintain full rights to deploy our core technology throughout the rest of the construction industry, where there is large overlap. We're looking for a technical co-founder to help us expand this powerful solution across the broader construction ecosystem first, with the potential to expand into other industries where complex document processing is a critical bottleneck.
What you'll do (in a nutshell):
- Design our document processing front-end user interface
- Expand on our existing backend solution for handling AI APIs and prompts
- Complete additional prompt engineering efforts required to shape up product for adjacent markets
- Make key technical decisions that will shape our products and company
- Work directly with me (as cofounder) to guide our overall strategy
- Build and lead our engineering team
You should have deep expertise in:
- Data science and working with frontier LLMs to solve complex, domain-specific problems
- Designing and implementing sophisticated prompt engineering and chaining strategies
- Architecting systems that effectively integrate LLM outputs into user-friendly applications
- Architecting and implementing full-stack web applications that can handle complex data processing and visualization
- Managing and extracting insights from large, diverse datasets, particularly unstructured data
- Designing scalable, cloud-native architectures that present complex data in intuitive ways and can grow with our business
Ideal technical proficiencies:
- Advanced Python programming, with a focus on working with APIs of cutting-edge AI models
- Experience with LLM frameworks and prompt engineering techniques
- Proven track record in building elegant, high-performance web applications using languages like React, Node.js, and RESTful APIs, etc.
- Strong background in API design and implementation, ensuring smooth communication between AI services and front-end applications
- Demonstrated expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), particularly in deploying and scaling AI-powered applications
Would be awesome if:
- You have experience or interest in construction, but definitely not a requirement. As long as you're curious to learn new things
We're looking for someone who can navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technologies, making strategic decisions about how to best apply these tools to our specific use case in document processing. I do this every day (for example, I read new arXiv papers daily) so you'll have a thought partner for all of this. And your expertise should extend beyond implementation – we need someone who can envision and create intuitive interfaces that make complex document data accessible and actionable for our users.
On a more personal note, during my last startup, Patronus AI, my two cofounders actually met on here (Angellist at the time) and through the years we became best friends. Would be awesome if that happens again. Personal compatibility is incredibly important, so here are some additional points of reference to help suss out if it'd be a good fit:
Crucially, you should be:
- Comfortable with the ups and downs of startup life
- A thoughtful person who also values open, honest, thoughtful communication
- Willing to challenge ideas constructively, always aiming for the best outcome for the business
- Someone who works to maintain a positive attitude even when faced with obstacles
- A person who sees setbacks as learning opportunities
- Enthusiastic about building not just a product, but a company culture
- Intensely curious and always eager to learn
- Committed to continuous personal and professional growth
- Excited about evolving your skills and knowledge as the company scales
- Adaptable and ready to take on new challenges as our needs change
This is a full cofounder role. You'll have significant equity and a say in all major decisions.
We're still small and scrappy, currently bootstrapped, and generating revenue from our first design-partner customer. The listed salary range is available for this role, though as a true cofounder with significant equity, you might prefer to take a lower salary initially to maximize our runway and growth potential. You'll help shape our key strategic decisions - from whether we bootstrap or pursue VC funding, to how we allocate our resources in these early stages.
We will be at a crossroads in terms of whether to continue to bootstrap or take on VC funding. Both paths seem viable at this moment, so it will have to be a strategic EV-type decision we will make together.
We're solving real problems in an industry that desperately needs innovation. If you're excited about applying your technical skills to revolutionize how the construction industry handles documents, let's talk.
No need for a polished resume. Just show us what you've built and tell us why you're interested in this challenge!
