Background:
The USAID Feed the Future Nigeria Agriculture Extension and Advisory Services Activity (AEAS) is a five-year project (May 2023 to May 2025) implemented by Winrock International. It focuses on sustainable agricultural extension services in Nigeria. The overall objective of the AEAS activity is to expand access to agro-inputs and services while disseminating extension messaging to at least 2 million smallholder farmers in Nigeria. By leveraging the facilitative market systems approach, the project aims to enhance agricultural productivity and resilience, particularly in Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Niger states.
POSITION SUMMARY: The accountant will be responsible for accounting activities to include financial reports, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, auditing field office vouchers, and other general accounting functions. He/she will also ensure field-based adherence to donor and Winrock financial policies and procedures, regulations, controls, and reporting systems.
This is a local/national position and is not eligible for international allowances. Qualified applicants residing in Abuja, Nigeria are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions:
· Perform accounting activities to include financial reports, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, and other general accounting functions
· Maintain the finance files for all project activities, with all the appropriate documents, including expenses and monthly invoices, etc.
· Prepare monthly payroll for staff, including helping review staff timesheets in Dayforce for proper signatures and allocation information; calculating all salaries, income tax obligations; and recording all relevant accruals, including fringe, bonuses, gratuities, etc. in compliance with signed employee agreements.
· Assist in managing data entry in the QuickBooks and Field Office Vouchers on day-to-day basis; prepares journal, receipts and disbursement vouchers, and accumulates documents in support of the voucher and seeks proper approvals.
· Assist Snr accountant to develop monthly projections for project monthly cash flow needs and prepare request to Winrock Ho, follow through on receipt of funds and bank reconciliations
· Assist in processing government remittances within set due dates such as withholding taxes from compensation and other services, and statutory social contributions
· Assist the Finance Director with developing spreadsheet programs for tracking and monitoring all financial activities and maintaining spreadsheets with current project expense data.
· Ensure that monthly financial reports package is submitted to the Winrock International Regional office by the given deadline
· Upload financial vouchers and support documentation in Winrock official project filing site by the given deadline
· Assist with the preparation and submission of monthly invoices and other financial reports as required and provide required documentation for USAID-required audits.
· Work closely with the procurement and operations team to process payments for local consultants, vendors, and subcontractors in accordance with USAID/Winrock’s policies and procedures
· Tracks staff advances
· Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field
· Three (3) years of experience in managing accounts and generating financial reports, preferably in a non-profit or international development environment
· Clear and concise understanding of bookkeeping and accounts, and must have knowledge of the tax and regulations system in Nigeria
· Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred)
· Experience managing accounts for US Government funded projects.

· Proficient user of Quick Books.
