Software Engineer, Robot Software Infrastructure Internship/Co-op

The Robot Software Infrastructure team is responsible for the software environment on Zoox’s autonomous vehicle fleet and test fixtures. We operate at a unique intersection of software engineering, systems engineering, and product security. Our engineers work in diverse areas, including:

• Maturing the operating system on our vehicle’s primary compute platform
• Designing systems that update software and firmware on vehicles and test fixtures during development, manufacturing, and in the field
• Creating vehicle software build and configuration systems
• Developing security-focused software in close collaboration with the product security team

The RSI roadmap includes a number of significant projects suitable for a strong intern looking for professional experience. Candidates will be matched to a project that best fits their skill set, interests and the team’s needs.

Qualifications

• Academic work in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines (e.g. operating systems, networking, filesystems, algorithms, security)
• Proactive, self-driven learner
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Python
• Experience using Linux and the command line
• Demonstrable triage, debugging, and problem-solving skills

Bonus Qualifications

• Production software development experience
• Software development for embedded systems
• Proficiency in a language without automatic memory management (e.g., C or C++)
• Project experience related to robotics, mechatronics, or sensors
• Familiarity with the Linux kernel, filesystems, devices and networking
• Familiarity with CAN or other embedded/automotive communication protocols
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure environments, tools and concepts, including caching, queuing, and distributed data storage

Compensation
The monthly salary range for this position is $6,500 to $9,500. Compensation will vary based on role, degree level and type, and benefits will be offered based on eligibility. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, 401k, and a housing stipend.
