About the job

MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

The Atlas Core Engineering team is a cross-functional team focused on both platform services and product development. The team is primarily based in NYC with members and cross-team partners from Seattle to Dublin. This team owns the foundational platform capabilities of MongoDB Cloud Service products that includes critical backend services, identity and access management, billing, payment integrations, auditing, customer alerting, and experimentation. Our services and platform ensure feature teams can build together a secure, modern, consumption-based SaaS that is delightful to customers.

As a Staff TPM, you will be responsible for leading strategic technology programs for the services and platform all MongoDB Cloud engineering teams rely on. In addition, you will own the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional engineering efforts for the Atlas Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform and product team. As a TPM leader of these critical programs you will have an opportunity to advance MongoDB’s goals to deliver great products that our customers love. This position reports up to a TPM Director.

This role can be based out of our New York City office or remotely in the Eastern Timezone region.

  • Able to deconstruct complex challenges into coherent components and steadily advance towards solving them
  • Deep experience managing large-scale programs, end-to-end, across the whole software development process, encompassing strategic planning and successful product delivery
  • An ability to lead with innovative insights through strong analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrated success partnering with technical stakeholders on breaking down engineering challenges in a methodical manner: establishing goals, setting priorities, outlining the project's scope and implementation steps
  • Crisp execution and facilitation skills in the face of ambiguity and competing priorities. Can preemptively anticipate potential blockers and navigate effectively

Position Expectations:

  • Successfully leverage deep experience and knowledge of engineering operations and product development flows to set an innovative strategy for programs owned by reporting TPMs
  • Model rigorous strategic and tactical thinking and execution
  • Cultivate a collaborative atmosphere that promotes learning, creativity, and invention
  • Anticipate and remove with a sense of urgency obstacles that slow down product teams from delivering on goals
  • Build alignment across cross-functional leaders by fostering strategic partnerships to drive business goals forward
  • Be a trusted strategic partner for executive management to ensure program success
  • Create clarity in a complex technical environment, align stakeholder’s expectations and manage engineering communication
  • Capably facilitate engineering discussions leveraging technical aptitude and analytical skills to summarize complex trade-offs, extract priorities and next steps, streamlining team decision making
  • A customer first mindset

Requirements

  • 7- 10 years experience managing complex, technical initiatives and engineering programs from initiation to completion
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, related fields or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience with MongoDB or comparable technology
  • Experience with technical design discussions and ability to summarize complex trade-offs and extract priorities
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and strong analytical skills with proven results
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style and delivery for a variety of audiences

Success Measures:

  • In 3 months you will have ramped up on MongoDB products and the Atlas Core Engineering products and services
