About the job

About this role

AndrenaM is looking for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in manufacturing and design for production to help build and scale our cutting-edge maritime sensing and autonomous systems. As a member of our team, you will have a significant impact on designing and optimizing mechanical components and systems, ensuring they are ready for efficient, high-volume production while meeting rigorous performance, cost, and quality targets.

Our core challenge is to develop durable, lightweight, and high-performance mechanical systems that seamlessly integrate sensors, electronics, and communication devices for harsh maritime environments. Your expertise will be crucial in designing for manufacturability, utilizing materials such as composites, plastics, and advanced metals, and ensuring our systems are production-ready.

In this role

  • You will drive the design and development of mechanical systems, with a primary focus on manufacturability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software engineers, and manufacturing partners to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electronic systems.
  • You will optimize designs for plastic injection molding, composite fabrication, electrical packaging, and other high-volume production methods.
  • You will influence product development from concept to production, ensuring designs are both innovative and practical for manufacturing at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, with a strong emphasis on manufacturability for processes such as injection molding, composite layups, and CNC machining.
  • Work collaboratively with the product development team to integrate electrical and mechanical components, ensuring compact, reliable, and efficient packaging for sensors, PCBs, and other electronics.
  • Drive the prototyping, testing, and iteration process, transitioning designs from concept to full-scale production.
  • Utilize CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or Siemens NX) to create detailed mechanical designs and perform engineering analyses, including FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and thermal analysis, to validate design integrity.
  • Develop and document manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and quality control measures to ensure a seamless transition from design to production.
  • Engage with suppliers and manufacturing partners to identify and resolve manufacturing challenges, continuously improving designs and optimizing cost-efficiency.
  • Lead design reviews, providing feedback on improving manufacturability, reliability, and performance, and ensuring compliance with DoD standards and regulations.

Some types of experiences we're especially excited to see

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing (DFM) and production scaling.
  • Expertise in high-volume manufacturing processes, including plastic injection molding, composite layups, CNC machining, and electrical packaging.
  • Hands-on experience integrating electrical components such as sensors and PCBs into mechanical designs, ensuring reliable operation in rugged environments.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks/Siemens NX) and experience with FEA and thermal analysis tools (ANSYS).
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers, scaling products from prototype to mass production in-house.
  • Knowledge of materials science, including the properties and applications of composites, polymers, and metals in harsh environments.
  • Background in industries such as defense, aerospace, automotive, or maritime technology is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
  • Familiarity with quality control systems, defense industry regulations, and ITAR compliance is a plus.
