Platform UX - Senior Design System Engineer

Elastic seeks a highly motivated Design System Engineer to join the UX team that builds and maintains EUI, the design system behind the product suite at Elastic. This person has mastered their craft as a front-end engineer and is able to both contribute high-quality code to our library as well as consult on its usage and empower other engineers and designers to be successful in its usage. They are well-versed in the principles of atomic design and understand how to work on and in a design system. They often have a background in design and are able to apply their UX knowledge to work seamlessly with designers to translate design into reusable code that amplifies the power of UX across our product suite.

This role will be based in Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, or Spain – sponsorship and relocation will not be offered.

What you will be doing

• Contributing to and maintaining the EUI library.
• Serving as a design system advisor to our front-end UI teams, teaching them how to use it optimally to raise the quality bar across our organization.
• Acting as a liaison between design and engineering, providing technical guidance and mentorship
• Partnering with designers to bring new patterns to life.
• Helping to bring our design system to full maturity by contributing not just to our code base, but also to our documentation site and Figma design library.
• Maintaining an awareness of the state of technology, engineering techniques, and design system trends and integrating these concepts into our system.
• Advocating for user-centric design, accessibility, and developer experience.
• Working closely with your peers to build a culture of excellence for our team.

What You Bring Along

• 5 years of proven experience in front-end development at a tech-forward company
• Proficiency with modern HTML and CSS.
• Proficiency in modern web development, including JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
• Proficiency in library development and a deep understanding of the tools and ecosystem.
• Experience writing clear, elegant code as part of a team.
• Experience working on at least one design system.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Bonus Points

• Experience working asynchronously on a fully distributed team.
• Experience using CSS-in-JS.
• Experience working in Figma.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards
• Prior experience as a designer.
