MealMatch AI is on a mission to revolutionize meal planning and grocery shopping through the power of artificial intelligence. We are building a platform that helps individuals and families save money, reduce food waste, and access healthy, affordable food options. As we prepare to launch our MVP, we’re seeking an experienced and visionary VP of Engineering to lead the development of our product from the ground up.

This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-growing startup, work on a product that has the potential to positively impact millions of people, and own a significant piece of equity in the company. Estimated funding will be secured in 6-12 months post-MVP launch, but this position is equity-only until then.

Role Overview:

As the VP of Engineering at MealMatch AI, you will be the head of the engineering department and lead the team responsible for building the entire MealMatch AI platform, from the backend systems to the front-end user interfaces. You will be responsible for designing, architecting, and developing the product infrastructure to support our MVP and scale the platform over time.

We need someone with strong full-stack development experience, excellent leadership abilities, and a passion for building innovative products in the AI and food tech space. You will be expected to lead by example and set a high bar for technical quality, scalability, and performance. This is a hands-on role, where you will be involved in both the development and management aspects of the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:
Architect and Build the MVP:

Lead the development of our MVP from start to finish, ensuring that the backend, front-end, and infrastructure components are built efficiently and are scalable.
Develop and maintain robust APIs, databases, and server architectures to support features like personalized meal recommendations, grocery price comparisons, smart shopping lists, and pantry management.
Full-Stack Engineering Leadership:

Be hands-on with full-stack development, ensuring seamless integration between the backend services and the frontend experience.
Oversee development in technologies like JavaScript, React (frontend), and Node.js, Python, or Ruby (backend), ensuring the system is built for scalability, security, and performance.
Team Leadership & Communication:

Serve as the primary technical leader and work closely with the CEO and other key stakeholders to set the technical direction and strategy.
Be responsible for hiring, mentoring, and leading an engineering team as MealMatch AI grows.
Communicate clearly with the team and other departments, ensuring everyone is aligned with the company’s technical goals.
Availability and Dedication:

You must be available full-time or on a high-commitment part-time basis, as we need someone who can lead daily development efforts and ensure that key milestones are met.
As this is an equity-only role at the outset, we need someone who believes in the vision of MealMatch AI and is willing to put in the effort to ensure the MVP is launched successfully.
Collaboration and Leadership:

Work collaboratively with the CEO, product team, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.
Lead engineering sprints, oversee project timelines, and ensure that technical challenges are solved in a timely manner.
Quality Assurance & Testing:

Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and other best practices to ensure that the platform is reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
Set up and manage code reviews and performance optimization processes to maintain high-quality standards.
Scalability and Innovation:

Architect the platform to scale with the company’s growth and be prepared to innovate by integrating AI-driven solutions like Koffee AI for meal planning.
Identify and implement the latest technology trends that will enhance MealMatch AI’s product offerings.
Skills and Experience Required:
Proven Full-Stack Development Experience:

5+ years of experience in full-stack development (front-end and backend).
Expertise with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js) and backend technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, Ruby on Rails).
Strong understanding of database architecture and development with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
Experience building scalable cloud-based architectures (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure).
Leadership and Team Management:

Experience leading engineering teams, managing multiple projects, and setting technical direction.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to hire, mentor, and develop junior engineers.
Exceptional communication skills, capable of aligning both technical and non-technical teams.
Startup Experience (Preferred):

Experience working in or leading development in a startup environment, particularly in building an MVP from scratch.
Willingness to take on a hands-on role and work closely with the CEO and other key stakeholders to execute the vision of the product.
