One of Terawatt's Core Values is "Electrify the Customer". Terawatt is looking for a Director of Hardware to help create the best EV charging solution in North America. This role is a key leadership position to set the strategy for Terawatt's EVSE hardware assets while choosing the right electrical layout to make our sites highly efficient.
In this role, you will provide leadership and participate in strategic EVSE hardware partner selection, EV <> EVSE <> CMS automated testing, and vehicle OEM interoperability testing. In addition, you will engage with utility partners and vendors to deliver site power efficiency solutions through existing and emerging technologies. Your passion for world-class EV charging hardware allows you to lead by example - live, breathe, and eat high-powered systems. Working with the SVP of Technology, you will lead a team of EVSE Validation Engineers, and over time, other hardware functions, engage with the broader software, data, and operations teams who will look to you as the technical leader for all things hardware.
This position is critical in leading the creation of a world-class charging experience for our fleet customers. The team's role is to ensure that Terawatt's selected charging systems operate with maximum uptime while delivering a seamless customer experience. Core Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to the Hardware team to qualify new EVSE Hardware vendors.
- Build and execute strategies for interoperability for our different EVSE partners and the vehicles that will use our charging infrastructure.
- Help provide technical insights to create EVSE hardware product requirements (PRD) and validate complex energy management algorithms.
- Select and monitor existing EVSE vendors quality and compliance, suppliers, products and 3rd party services required for commercial deployment.
- Build and maintain technical relationships with EVSE partners.
- Work with Field Service to help resolve complex hardware-related problems for Terawatt's fleet customers.
- Work with executive stakeholders and the product team to develop and integrate MCS into the company roadmap.
- Work with Utility companies and partners to create site-wide power efficiency initiatives.
- Work on existing and upcoming standards engagements and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of DC Fast Charger EVSE vendors product lines with 5+ years' experience in the EV ecosystem and 10+ years overall hardware-related experience
- Demonstrable skills in technical strategy, and complex root cause analysis.
- Demonstrable ability to lead a team of hardware-focused engineers.
- Direct hands-on experience with electrified vehicles and related HV components such as DC/DC converters, Li-ion batteries, high-power DC chargers, etc.
- Electrical Engineering in Power Electronics background or similar demonstrable experience.
- Deep understanding and experience with power transmission systems and technologies.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures and EMI requirements related to high-power applications.
- Ability to lead diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical systems using basic tools such as a function generator, multimeter, oscilloscope, hi-pot tester, megger ohm meter, etc.
