We are looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer in the platform pillar to build a top-tier software organization that will help design and implement Smartsheet's next generation architecture. In this role, you will identify platform scale and performance challenges, build and lead strategic projects, mentor other engineers and can act as a lead on projects. You will drive positive change in the work environment with a consistent track record of delivering on commitments. You will communicate proactively and effectively to different kinds of audiences, including executives and non-technical stakeholders.
You will report to our SVP of Engineering located in our UK office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.
You Will:
- Build scalable back-end services for the next generation of applications at Smartsheet (Kotlin, Java, GO, Python)
- Solve challenging distributed systems problems and work with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Take part in code reviews and architectural discussions as you work with other software engineers and product managers
- Mentor junior engineers on code quality and other industry best practices
- Forge a strong partnership with product management and other key areas of the business
- Influence and mentor other teams of engineers, acting as a technical design mentor and providing architectural and design input
You Have:
- 12+ years software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications
- 12+ years of programming experience with full stack technologies such Java, Kotlin or TypeScript
- 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
- Experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis

Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive incentive opportunity and some roles may be eligible for a RSU stock grant upon accepted offer. *
